Nearly a year after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake unleashed a tsunami in northeastern Japan, CNN’s Kyung Lah gets rare access to the Fukushima nuclear plant — still considered to be one of the most hazardous places on the planet. CNN is the only U.S. broadcast network to have access to the plant. Here’s her report.

CNN is taking a deeper dive into the nationwide gas price hike. Ali Velshi talked about it on “Starting Point.” Managing Editor Mark Whitaker has written this op-ed. And “The Situation Room,” “Out Front” and other CNN shows will devote segments to the issue throughout the week. Also, iReporters are being asked to share what they see in their own towns.

Lynn Brindell joins CNN Worldwide as SVP of marketing. Brindell will work across all CNN brands leading off-channel and digital marketing efforts. She will report to Janet Rollé, EVP and CMO of CNN Worldwide. In the past, Brindell has worked on marketing efforts at The Weather Channel, Food Network and Lifetime Television.

Soledad O’Brien and Husband Establish Foundation For Young Women

Last night, CNN special correspondent Soledad O’Brien was front and center at a private reception to introduce the foundation she established with her husband, Brad Raymond. The event, at a private residence in Atlanta, is a precursor to the foundation’s major fundraiser next month in Bridgehampton, New York. Among the attendees, CNN executives Susan Grant, Janelle Rodriguez, and Janet Rolle, Ambassador Andrew Young, jazz artist Irvin Mayfield, and hip-hop artist Ludacris.

The stated goal of the Soledad O’Brien & Brad Raymond Foundation is “to provide young women with a bridge between obstacles and opportunity, giving them the experiences, education and resources to overcome unexpected barriers to success.”

CNN Worldwide Hires Janet Rollé As CMO

CNN Worldwide has hired Janet Rollé as executive VP and CMO. In her new role Rollé will be tasked with leading brand strategy and marketing efforts for all of the CNN brands, including CNN/U.S. and CNN International.

She will be based in New York and report to CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton, who sent a note to staff about her hire on Friday.

She joins CNN from BET Networks, where she served as executive VP and CMO.
