ABC Producers Ride Out Storm in Fire-Ravaged Breezy Point

You’ve probably already seen the destruction in Breezy Point, Queens. 100 homes destroyed by a massive hurricane-whipped fire Monday night. Two ABC News producers rode out the storm, having been sent to Breezy Point earlier in the afternoon to do the “hurricane hold-outs” story. Jim DuBreuil and Keturah Gray recount the horrific night on ABCNews.com.

“I remember looking out the window around 8:30 at night, and all of a sudden, we just saw this,” DuBreuil says. “It seemed like we were in a national forest where you see all those fires with timbers flying around. Juju Chang Goes Guerilla Journalist For Inauguration

The idea was born from holiday presents.

ABC’s Juju Chang got a Flip cam from her husband, former NBC News president Neal Shapiro, now president of WNET. ABC News producer Jim DuBreuil got one too.

Then they had to convince executives of their plan: cover the Inauguration with the Flip cams, laptops and smartphones. Chang went into a meeting with ABC News president David Westin, Flip cam in hand. He flipped, so to speak, in a good way, and gave them the green light.

So, what do they hope to accomplish? Head over to WebNewser for the rest of the story
