Rick Klein: Your TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09 Champ

standings_4-7.bmp

Well, as Tyler Hansborough fulfilled his destiny and hoisted the NCAA Championship trophy last night, ABC News’ Rick Klein was fulfilling his destiny as winner of the TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09.

The inaugural champion edged out championship game surges from CBS’ Jeff Glor (finishing 2nd) and TVNewser editor Chris Ariens (tied for 3rd), while CNN correspondent Joe Johns‘ (3rd) hopes of winning it all were dashed as Michigan St. fell to UNC.

Thanks to all who participated, and enjoy your reign on top, Rick.

> Update: Klein tweets the victory was “among my prouder accomplishments.”

Klein vs. Johns: It All Comes Down To The Spartans

standings_3-30.bmp

There are just two possible winners of the TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09: ABC’s Rick Klein and CNN’s Joe Johns. Klein has the five-point lead, but only has UNC in the finals. Johns has Michigan St. winning it all — if that happens, he wins. If the Spartans can win just one game, and face Villanova in the finals, Johns and Klein tie.

Just three brackets (Johns, CBS’ Jeff Glor and TVNewser editor Chris Ariens) still have their champ pick alive in the Final Four.

The Note Takes The Lead

standings_3-23.bmp

With the Sweet 16 set in the NCAA tournament, ABC’s Rick Klein has surged into the lead in the TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09.

Klein has one of the four brackets (along with MSNBC’s Willie Geist, CBS’ Jeff Glor and TVN editor Chris Ariens) with all Elite Eight teams still intact. The leader after Day 1, CNN’s Joe Johns, fell back into the pack, and his pick of Michigan in the Final Four will hurt his chances at victory.

And although he’s currently sitting in last place, ABC’s John Berman writes on the league’s message board: “I might be last…but I am leading in the demo.”

With One Eye on the Capitol and Another on the Court, Joe Johns Leads The Bracket Challenge

Here’s a look at the standings in the TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09. CNN correspondent Joe Johns, along with Steve, are tied for first place after yesterday’s first round games. BBC’s Rome Hartman rounds out the pack. And we’re pretty sure he won’t be Tweeting that.

TVNewser Bracket Challenge ’09: The Competitors

bracket_3-19.bmpTo celebrate the Madness that is March, we’re holding the first ever TVNewser Bracket Challenge! All news networks were asked to participate — some chose to “pass” (an assist?).

Here are the 2009 participants, and who they picked to win it all:

• ABC correspondent John Berman (Pittsburgh)
• CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer (Duke)
&bull Bloomberg anchor Peter Cook (Duke)
• MSNBC host Willie Geist (Memphis)
• CBS anchor Jeff Glor (North Carolina)
• BBC E.P. Rome Hartman (Duke)
• CNN correspondent Joe Johns (Michigan St.)
• ABC correspondent Rick Klein (Louisville)
• CNBC correspondent Darren Rovell (Louisville)

We’ll update the standings periodically, and report on any trash talk that takes place among the competitors. Good luck!

Feeding the CNN Army, Guests, and EMS Too

RNC Logo.pngSo we’re on our way to interview Gretchen Carlson at the Fox Experience, but we stopped off at the incredibly neon decked-out CNN Grill. CNN analyst Roland Martin is doing his radio show from here, and we’ve spotted CNN correspondents John King, Candy Crowley, Gloria Borger, Ed Henry, Joe Johns and Jessica Yellin.

And we hear Anderson Cooper will join the team in St. Paul as early as today. Insiders tell us he, like other network anchors, is leaving the Gulf Coast and headed here.

Arianna Huffington is here with a crew in tow. Several members of the St. Paul Fire Dept/EMS are here, in what is normally, and will be again when CNN leaves, the Eagle Street Diner.

The Grill can also accommodate live shots. In fact, minutes ago Louisiana delegate Michael Bayham wrapped up an interview with Heidi Collins (and if you looked closely TVNewser was blogging from behind the shot).

We’ll be back later today to get the scoop on what it takes to transform a downtown diner into a restaurant/live location/hangout.
