Kate Bolduan Expecting First Child

“New Day” co-anchor Kate Bolduan and her husband private equity investor Michael Gershenson are expecting their first child. “You all, without probably knowing it, have put up with some pretty gnarly morning sickness,” Bolduan said.

“You’ll have to deal with another baby,” John Berman said, pointing at Chris Cuomo. “I know, I’ve already got one,” Bolduan laughed while leaning on Cuomo.

And a fellow morning anchor who is also expecting, sent her congratulations.

Here’s the Reason Behind CNN’s ‘Poaching’ From ABC

ABC-News-Logo-1cnn logo_304x200

The New York Post reports on a Disney shareholder who asked Disney CEO Bob Iger whether his ABC News division is becoming a “training ground” for talent who eventually flee to CNN. Jake Tapper, Chris Cuomo, Bill Weir, and John Berman have all left ABC for CNN in the last 18 months. Rachel Nichols also left Disney-owned ESPN for CNN.

One key reason for the departures, which was not mentioned in the NYPost story, is that former ABC News VP of talent and strategy Amy Entelis is now head of talent and content development at CNN. Others who’ve made the move to CNN include SVP Vinnie Malhotra who spent 15 years at ABC and ESPN, and Andrew Morse who also spent 15 years at ABC and is now CNN’s SVP of domestic newsgathering.

Iger is unfazed by the departures, telling shareholders ABC has “a deep bench,” adding “in some cases we were trying to make way for a new generation, a new crop of talent.” The Post reports Iger singled out ABC News reporter David Muir, who is rumored to be a contender to replace Diane Sawyer on “World News.”

CNN John Berman’s Fight Against ‘S Police’

John BermanCNN’s John Berman went on a bit of a tirade this morning against the “cable outrage” aimed at him and others on Twitter.

“About 10,000 people decided it was their duty on Twitter to point out to me—and the rest of the world—that it is Daylight Saving Time and NOT Daylight Savings Time,” Berman said.

Berman said he’s got nothing against the proper use of English, and wasn’t trying to be anti-intellectual: “Two sentences ago, I used the word prophylactically in a non-sexual way just to prove how smart I am,” he added, also suggesting he should move to Arizona because they don’t really observe daylight saving time—and in a joke about her veto of a controversial bill—also thanked Governor Jan Brewer for letting him spell however he’d like and “still be served in any store or restaurant.”

He concluded with a message for his Twitter haters, doubling down on embracing the improper use of the letter “s.”

“To all the daylight saving time police out there…stop acting like a bunch of jerk.”

In his first appearance as a contributor, Bernstein—who wrote a biography on Hillary Clinton—offered his take on revelations that the former first lady called Monica Lewinsky a “narcissistic looney toon.” WATCH: Read more

CNN’s New Daytime Show Gets a Name: ‘@THISHOUR’

Wolf-ATH

CNN’s new 11amET show officially has a name: “@THISHOUR.” The 11amET show, anchored by John Berman and Michaela Pereira, debuts Monday as part of CNN’s revamped daytime lineup.

“@THISHOUR” replaces “Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield,” which slides to the 12pmET hour. CNN’s 1pmET hour, anchored by Wolf Blitzer, also gets a makeover and a new name as part of the changes — beginning Monday, the show will be called “Wolf” and will no longer be using the “CNN Newsroom” branding.

Ironically enough, the @thishour Twitter handle is taken, so the CNN show will have to find a new social media identity.

CNN Changes: ‘Around the World’ Canceled; John Berman, Michaela Pereira Add 11am

MalveauxWorldCNN is changing up its daytime schedule, replacing the NoonET “Around the World” co-anchored by Suzanne Malveaux and Michael Holmes with “Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield.” Banfield’s move from 11am to Noon makes room for a new show co-anchored by John Berman and Michaela Pereira at 11amET. Berman and Pereira will continue their roles on “Early Start” and “New Day.”

The international news-focused Noon hour took shape in the summer of 2012 as “International Newsroom.” At the time, Malveaux had anchored two hours of CNN’s early afternoon hours from Atlanta. She will return to Washington as CNN’s national correspondent. Her return to D.C. allows her to better care for her mother, who suffers from ALS.

Holmes will return full-time to CNN International and continue to anchor “International Desk,” which airs weekdays at 10amET on CNNI.

Carol Costello continues anchoring from 9-11am, Berman and Pereira pick up at 11am, Banfield is at Noon, Wolf Blitzer continues to anchor an hour from Washington at 1pm and Brooke Baldwin anchors her two hours from Atlanta, beginning at 2pmET.

Christine Romans Named Co-Anchor of CNN’s ‘Early Start’

christine romansCNN has announced Christine Romans will join John Berman as the co-anchor of “Early Start.” Romans, who will continue in her role as the network’s chief business reporter, replaces Zoraida Sambolin, who left CNN last month.

“Given the audience’s interest in business news as the day begins, and markets across the globe have been open for hours, Christine will add a great dimension to the program that starts CNN’s programming day,” CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker said in a statement, also noting Romans’ “fantastic rapport” with Berman.

CNN has also named Victor Blackwell and Christi Paul anchors of “New Day Weekend.” Blackwell, who has been anchoring the program for several months, will continue to report from Atlanta during the week, and Paul will continue in her role as an HLN anchor.

“Victor and Christi have proven that they are consummate journalists and anchors,” Zucker said. “In expanding their roles, CNN is fortunate to have their depth of knowledge and breadth of experience to tell the compelling stories that people expect from CNN.”

CNN potIn a segment this morning about Colorado’s new marijuana law, CNN anchor John Berman was asked if he would like to partake.

“Who wants to buy pot there?” comedian and marijuana legalization activist Tommy Chong asked. “You guys wanted to score some weed?”

Referencing his panel of lawyers, Berman responded that he was all set.

“No problem, I’ve been paying my lawyer lately with weed,” Chong responded.

“Danny and Joey right now are making sure that they’ve passed the bar in the state that you reside at this point,” Berman joked. Watch:
