Keith Olbermann gave Fox News’s John Gibson the bronze last night in “Worst Persons” over this.

And today on his radio show, Gibson fired back.

“This is absurd. He wasn’t there,” Gibson said of Olbermann, as both tell a different version of what happened when Gibson ran into MSNBC president Phil Griffin at dinner last week. “And he went on television to say he knows what happened. My God, how low the peacock has sunk.”

But later in the discussion, Gibson describes a dinner he had “two, three nights ago” at Rao’s Restaurant (“all these media stars go there”). “Suddenly I hear ‘Gibby!’ I look up and there’s Phil Griffin, the guy who runs MSNBC,” said Gibson.

Gibson, who worked at MSNBC before leaving for FNC in 2000, said Griffin told him, “Going left was the right thing to do.”

“He doesn’t have a political bone in his body,” says Gibson. “He was looking for ratings.”

There’s a new player in the competition to take over Bill O’Reilly‘s Westwood One radio gig — former presidential candidate Fred Thompson. The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes that Thompson “will begin hosting a two-hour show in March.”

But besides Thompson, Rudy Giuliani is also reported to be in negotiations with Westwood One, while John Gibson was announced last week as replacing O’Reilly’s FOX News Talk role.

“The syndicators hope that boldface names will help retain listeners in a fragmented world of media,” writes Stelter, as he points to a March 2 start date for the likely Thompson-O’Reilly switch.

“Gibson on FOX” will be available for affiliates to pick up as an alternative to The Radio Factor, which has its final broadcast early next year. “Gibson” will air live from Noon-3pmET.

Gibson’s current show on FOX News Talk, which airs from 6-9pmET, will end its run.

The Radio Factor is heard on more than 400 stations across the U.S.

The hip-hop star (left) joined about 50 protesters, (less than another anti-FNC protest in 2004) from two organizations: ColorofChange.org and MoveOn.org who called on the network to, “stop its racist smears against the Obamas and other Black Americans.”

Also in attendance — more than 620,000 signed petitions. Andre Banks, deputy director of Color of Change, told TVNewser the plan was to bring the boxes in one by one, but in the end, “They refused to accept the petitions. They just don’t want to hear it.”

The protesters stood quietly for about an hour until Nas appeared, most holding pre-made or hand-made signs. Many Fox News employees came to check out the scene, including Red Eye host Greg Gutfeld and some of the show’s staff. “This is quite possibly the most boring protest ever,” he told us.

But that was before Nas arrived. The hip-hop star emerged from an SUV to a flutter of cameras, made his way to the front of the protesters and gave a short speech, before heading back into the SUV.

A Fox News spokesperson tells TVNewser, “Fox News believes in all protesters exercising their right to free speech, including Nas, who has an album to promote.”

About 15 minutes after leaving, Nas returned, and he had something to say.

Just In with Laura Ingraham ends its three-week run tomorrow. Ingraham was aware the show was temporary, and she will continue as primary fill-in for Bill O’Reilly.

As for John Gibson whose show, Big Story, was replaced by America’s Election HQ in February, he continues his show on Fox News Radio.
