ABC News to Present ‘Best in TV’ Special

Barbara Walters has been tapped to host an ABC News special this Fall in conjunction with ABC’s airing of the Emmy Awards. “Best in TV: The Greatest TV Shows of Our Time,” produced in conjunction with People magazine, will air in September. The “Best in TV” winners will be determined by online voters.

Categories include Best TV Comedy, Best TV Drama, Favorite TV Mom and Dad, Best Talk Show Host and Best Non-Human Character. The nominees have already been chosen, so head over to BestInTelevison.com to vote. Voting is open through July 23.

The Walters special, produced by ABC News’s John Green, will include many classic and never-before seen clips from America’s favorite shows, and new interviews with some of the stars and directors of the winning series.

ABC News veteran John Green has been named Executive Producer of ABC Newsmagazines. For the past 3 years, Green has been EP of special programming and development at ABC News. Before that he was EP of “Good Morning America” weekend, which he launched in 2004.

In a note to staff, obtained by TVNewser, Newsmag EP David Sloan writes, “[Green] will act as my deputy and will bring his considerable creative energy to 20/20, breaking news specials, summer development, and the increasing number of network one-offs we’ll be asked to do in the coming new year.”

Green’s promotion is the first executive producer move under incoming News president Ben Sherwood.

NBA TV Pulling Out the Big Guns for Miami Heat Preseason

The Miami Heat – you know, that little squad with Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and a host of other dudes – play their first game on October 5 and NBA TV will be there.

Marv Albert will handle the play-by-play while hall of famer Kevin McHale and five-time NBA All-Star Chris Webber ride shotgun. Cheryl Miller lands the role of sideline reporter.

The tremendous trio (LeBron et al, not Alberts, etc.) won’t play the entire game, but the world will tune in regardless.

NBA TV, now in its 12th year, is available in 53 million U.S. homes and will feature up to 275 live games this year. Only 270 of them will feature the Heat.

TNT will televise the Heat’s first real game, an away tilt with the Boston Celtics on October 26.
