‘America’s Most Wanted’ On CNN?

The creator and host of “America’s Most Wanted” says that he has a meeting with CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker in a few weeks. John Walsh made the comments to TV Guide‘s Michael Schneider:

“Maybe Jeff will say there’s room on this channel, especially with CNN’s international reach,” he says. “They ask me constantly to go on Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and Piers Morgan. Maybe I can come up with some kind of hybrid show that might serve those purposes… I hope that maybe with the blessing of Lifetime that I might be able to do something.”

As we noted this morning, Lifetime recently canceled “America’s Most Wanted,” though it is working with Walsh on another series.

‘CBS This Morning’ Snags Surprise Jack Nicklaus Interview

In the high-stakes world of TV news, sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time. CBS Sportscaster Jim Nantz was in Augusta, Georgia covering the Masters golf tournament (CBS has the exclusive TV rights) when he saw golf legend Jack Nicklaus walking by. He did what any good journalist would do right before he was scheduled for a live-shot: he asked Nicklaus to join him.

Also, on “CTM,” correspondent John Miller and the co-anchors were joined by John Walsh, the host of “America’s Most Wanted,” which was recently canceled by Lifetime. Walsh explained the success of the show in catching criminals, and made an argument for it to be resurrected in some form:

‘America’s Most Wanted’ Returning to TV Dec. 2

“America’s Most Wanted,” the long-running crime series that was effectively canceled by Fox earlier this year, will return to TV with the first of 20 new episodes December 2. As we reported in September, Lifetime has acquired the rights to new episodes of the series.

On the air since 1988, “AMW” has led to the capture of over 1,100 fugitives.

“I am excited to be back in the saddle and working with Lifetime,” said host and executive producer John Walsh in a statement. “We are the court of last resort and with the show getting back to our weekly airing, we’ll have the capability of getting more fugitives off the streets and behind bars where they belong. We hope our observant fans continue the mission with us, on our new night – Friday — and keep our capture number climbing while helping those crime victims that need us.”

‘America’s Most Wanted’ To Live Again… On Lifetime

“America’s Most Wanted,” the long-running crime series that was effectively canceled by Fox in May, has found a new home. Lifetime, the network arguably best-known for its female-focused original movies and series, has acquired the rights to the series, which will produce new episodes for the cabler starting later this year.

“I’ve always believed there was something very special about America’s Most Wanted and that there should be a home for it on television, and I couldn’t be happier to now be able bring it back on Lifetime,” said host and EP John Walsh in a statement. “We’ve often been called the court of last resort…now we are back in the game and ready to saddle up for another season to get justice for victims and put dangerous criminals behind bars.”

‘America’s Most Wanted’ Host John Walsh to Receive Governors Award at Creative Arts Emmys

“America’s Most Wanted” host and producer John Walsh will receive the ATAS Governors Award at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in September. Earlier this year Fox announced that it would be phasing out the long-running program, a staple on its airwaves since 1988. Walsh has since said he and his company are trying to find a new home for the series, which has helped lead to the arrest of more than 1,500 fugitives.

“John Walsh has dedicated his life to the betterment of society, and while doing so has used television in an inventive and extraordinary way,” said Academy Chairman/CEO John Shaffner in a statement. “His contribution to society goes far beyond just hosting a hit TV show, but sets a prime example of how television can be used to convey an important message.”

Jacob Resnick, an 11-year-old who won SNY’s Kidcaster Contest, got to call a home run by his favorite player Jose Reyes in last night’s game — and he got to do it on his first pitch in the booth, where he was congratulated by Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Gary Cohen. My former 11-year-old self is jealous and hates this kid. My current self (age withheld) thinks this is pretty damn cool.

New Life for ‘America’s Most Wanted’ on Fox News?

This weekend marks the season finale of “America’s Most Wanted.” But crime crusader host John Walsh hopes it’s the not the series finale. In an interview with the AP Walsh reveals he’s in talks with other networks, including Fox News:

Fox News chairman Roger Ailes “has had preliminary discussions with John Walsh and he’s a fan of ‘America’s Most Wanted,’” said Fox News spokeswoman Irena Briganti, “but nothing has been decided.”

Walsh said he hopes to have a deal in place within the next few weeks. FOX broadcasting announced last month that the venerable Saturday night anti-crime show would be ending its weekly run after 23 years.

Sports fans looking for their big break in the radio industry will have an opportunity to earn an on-air shift on Sports Radio 66, WFAN.

The New York City radio station is hosting the Fantasy Phenom II Challenge and it kicks off Saturday at the Menlo Park Mall in Edison, N.J.

Contestants that get past the first round will audition in front of a panel of judges. The final five will compete for an on-air shift at Mike Francesa‘s “End of Summer” beach party and radio show broadcast from Bar A in Lake Como, N.J. on Friday, August 19. continued…

Effectively Canceled By Fox, ‘America’s Most Wanted’ Searches For a New Home

This week Fox effectively canceled the long-running crime series “America’s Most Wanted,” relegating it to a handful of specials.

Today the New York Times‘ Brian Stelter profiles the show, and speaks to its host and executive producer, John Walsh, about its future:

Mr. Walsh is considering taking the show into syndication, where episodes could be sold to local stations individually or in groups. He said he had heard from “a lot of different entities” already but did not name them. He said he also had a number of proposals for international variations of the show, but added, “Of course, you need to have ‘America’s Most Wanted’ to do the ‘World’s Most Wanted.’ ”

End of an Era: ‘America’s Most Wanted’ Goes Quarterly

“America’s Most Wanted,” a staple of Saturday nights on the Fox network since 1988, will end its weekly edition this year, shifting to two-hour quarterly installments. In its place Fox will air encore episodes of other shows.

Hope is not all lost, however. Someone close to the show says that host John Walsh and the producers are looking for other homes for the long-running program

“We have not made money on the show in quite a while,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly, announcing the move to reporters, “but we wanted to keep the franchise alive.”

The program, hosted by Walsh, looks at high-profile (and some not-so high profile) cases, with the goal of assisting police. The program says it has helped catch more than 1,100 criminals since its debut. “America’s Most Wanted” celebrated its 1,000th episode in March, 2010, with a visit to the White House and a guest appearance by President Obama.

It Will Take More Than Passion For Dallas To Host Future Super Bowls

DALLAS – Anyone who has spent two seconds in North Texas this week will tell you the weather has been downright miserable.

But according to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the cold weather won’t have any impact on a future Super Bowl bid.

“This is football country. It runs deep. It runs through men and women,” Jones said. “It’s a big deal. That’s the way it is here — period. All that should help us if we have ambitions of hosting future Super Bowls.”

You know what also runs deep, Jerry?

Ice. A half-inch at that.

When I’ve complained about the weather this week to folks that aren’t here, nobody has felt sorry for me because I’m at the Super Bowl and/or they are buried under snow themselves. continued…

Walsh Parents Make Morning Show Rounds

Following the news yesterday that Hollywood, FL police were closing the case of Adam Walsh after determining Ottis Toole was the boy’s murderer, John Walsh and his wife, Reve, appeared on all three network morning shows today. But on Today, the interview was dubbed “exclusive” (although it was accurately called “the first morning show interview” in the tease). In addition to John and Reve, two of their kids appeared during the NBC interview as well:
