After a two-day network booking battle, the reunion between Ted Williams, “the man with the golden voice” and his mother, Julia Williams, finally took place Thursday afternoon. After 20 years apart Williams was reunited with his 92-year-old mother, with network cameras in tow.

Page Six has more details about the reunion which could have occurred two days ago, if not for aggressive booking practices by network producers. As TVNewser first reported yesterday, CBS News had brought Julia Williams to LaGuardia Airport Wednesday afternoon, where her son was arriving from Columbus, OH. But NBC producers whisked him away before the reunion could happen. “We had to tell the mother she wouldn’t be reunited with her son,” a CBS source told Page Six. An NBC rep responded, “That’s false. We didn’t know his mom was at the airport.”

But it’s water under the bridge now. After the reunion yesterday, Williams and his mother went on all three broadcast shows this morning in the 7:30am half hour: “The Early Show,” pre-taped around 6am, “Today,” pre-taped after that, and then mother and son headed to ABC’s Times Square studios for a live appearance on “Good Morning America.”

The reunion stories and interviews from all three shows, after the jump…

Booking Wars: Morning Shows Fight Over Ted Williams and his 90-year-old Mother

A few days ago, Ted Williams was a homeless man living in Columbus, OH. This morning, he was the subject of a network news booking battle.

Williams the so-called “man with the golden voice” was flown to New York, on NBC’s dime, for multiple appearance on this morning’s “Today” show. Network rivals have been chasing his story as well.

Ted Williams’ down-on-his-luck tale was first captured by a reporter from The Columbus Dispatch, who, with his small video camera showed the panhandler’s rich baritone voice. The video soon went viral, with the original YouTube clip having been viewed more than 11.7 million times.

Williams appeared exclusively on CBS’ “The Early Show” Wednesday, from Columbus, which was day one of the network booking battle. Late yesterday, Williams flew to New York with multiple interviews on the four-hour “Today” show planned. NBC also hoped to arrange an emotional reunion with his 90-year-old mother Julia, who Ted Williams hadn’t seen in 10 years.

But it didn’t work out that way.
