The Morning Ticker: Obama, Rivera, Universo…

  • Pres. Obama will hold an East Room news conference this afternoon at 2:50pmET to discuss the outcome of the Midterms which saw Republicans re-take control of the Senate and hold the House of Representatives.
  • Fox News host Geraldo Rivera will be among the contestants on the next “Celebrity Apprentice.” Baseball star Johnny Damon, and “Kate Plus 8″ star Kate Gosselin are among the others for the new season debuting Jan. 4 on NBC.
  • On Feb. 1, NBCUinversal’s mun2 will become NBC UNIVERSO. The network geared toward Latinos, which includes film, music and reality shows, will add sports programming to the mix, including a Spanish-language broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX.

The Ticker: Rivera, Champion, Kuhn

  • Sam Champion‘s Weather Channel show isn’t being called “Your Morning Champion,” because, as Champion puts it, “the cheese factor would be so intensly high that I wouldn’t want to do it.” “AMHQ,” as it’s called, launches Monday at 7am.

  • Eric Kuhn, the former head of social media for CNN and UTA is part of the team for start-up “Layer3 TV.” Lost Remote reports the as-yet launched network has received $21 million in funding and has assembled a management team of tech and cable veterans.

This Is Happening: The Next ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ Features Crossover with ‘Kate Plus Eight’

This was inevitable, right? The newest show on TLC, “Sarah Palin‘s Alaska,” will be tapping the talents of some other TLC talent on Sunday, when Kate Gosselin (“Jon & Kate Plus Eight,” “Kate Plus Eight”)and her eight adorable children go north, and join the Palin family for a special crossover episode.

What will happen? Well the two “mama bears” will take their children camping, of course! But not before Palin takes the Gosselin clan to a “bear safety class” to practice their rifle skills:

‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ Gets Premiere Date

Palin080710.jpgFox News Channel contributor Sarah Palin‘s other television project finally has an air date. Sarah Palin’s Alaska will premiere on TLC in a prime slot: Sunday, November 14 at 9 p.m, according to B&C’s Stephanie Robbins.

TLC President Eileen O’Neill made the announcement during the Discovery Communications presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

“The early selects are looking great,” O’Neill said. “It’s become clear it takes a special individual to thrive in Alaska.”

O’Neill also confirmed that an upcoming episode of “Kate Plus 8″ will feature the Palins, with Kate Gosselin and her family visiting Alaska.

Now It’s Kate’s Turn to Talk

Jon Gosselin made the TV rounds Thursday, including an interview with CNN’s Larry King, now Kate Gosselin will sit down with Meredith Vieira live on NBC’s “Today” show Monday. NBC says Kate, “will set the record straight about her husband’s recent actions and the suspension of filming her reality show.”

Kate Gosselin Gives First Post-Separation Interview to Meredith Vieira

Gosselin_8.6.jpgNBC News announced that Kate Gosselin will sit down with Meredith Vieira for a live interview on the Today show Monday. This is Gosselin’s first television interview, other than the ones she gives on her own TLC show, since announcing her separation from Jon Gosselin.

NBC says Kate “will open up about the intense spotlight she and her family have been under the last few months and how they have been dealing with it.”

Ratings for “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ dropped 61% when the show returned from a six-week hiatus Monday night. The show had posted record ratings on June 22, when the couple announced they would separate.

Katie and Kate At Maria Shriver Confab

Couric_7.9.jpgFormer NBC News anchor turned California first lady Maria Shriver is finalizing the guest list for her Annual Women’s Conference this fall.

On this list: Katie Couric, Cindy McCain, Elizabeth Edwards, and Kate Gosselin of “John & Kate Plus 8″ (minus John) fame.

According to E!Online, the Gosselin invitation was the idea of Shriver’s daughters who are fans of the show. The invites were sent out five months ago – before the family started making tabloid headlines.

The SF Chronicle reports NBC’s David Gregory will moderate a panel at the event which will include Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Shriver.
