Late last week, there was much discussion about the lack of coverage. CNN’s Howard Kurtz talked about it at the close of his “Reliable Sources” yesterday. CNN, Fox News and MSNBC have done “a few stories,” Kurtz said, with CBS and ABC airing segments in January. Kurtz:

But there hasn’t been nearly enough on the trial. Perhaps the mainstream press is less attuned to a story that casts a shadow on abortion but the conservative media didn’t do much either. And it’s not like the staunchest pro-choice advocate would defend what Gosnell is alleged to have done. This is a gruesome case that journalists on both sides of the abortion question have told me is hard to stomach. That is especially true on television.

Kurtz also pointed out that coverage “is quickly picking up” after Fox News’s Kirsten Powers wrote this op-ed in the USA Today.

In a statement to Equality Matters, which is run by Media Matters Action Network, GLAAD’s vice president of communications Rich Ferraro used Colby and Guilfoyle’s attendance to condemn Fox News:

If Kimberly and Jamie expect to attend future GLAAD events, they will first need to sit down with us to discuss Fox News’ embarrassing, biased and misinformed coverage of LGBT issues. The invitation is open. Fox News’s track record on LGBT issues is abysmal, and it makes no sense to me why any LGBT people or allies would want to be a part of that.

TVNewser has obtained an email from GLAAD director of creative development Marc Honaker urging a current FNC staffer to “ask [Roger] Ailes or Suzanne [Scott] to buy a table for FNC.”

Honaker, who once worked for Bill O’Reilly‘s show, said in the email that Colby and Guilfoyle had an expressed an interest in attending, writing, “We’d love to have lots of FNCers!”

Eric Bolling: I think the secret ingredient is that we all get along extremely well. That’s real, not forced and I suspect the audience can sense that. Mr. Ailes came up with a unique show idea and that was impressive. Then he found a group of people who get along and enjoy each other’s perspective and input. For that Ailes is a genius!

TVNewser to Kimberly Guilfoyle: After your role as prosecutor in a San Francisco dog mauling case, you started getting TV offers from CourtTV, CNN, MSNBC before joining Fox in 2006. What do you miss most about your life as a prosecutor and how often do you find yourself using those skills on The Five?

Kimberly Guilfoyle: I think what I like the most about my change in profession from a prosecutor is that I am able to be an advocate for families, victims of major crimes, or individuals who do not normally have a voice or someone to speak for them and get the story out to the public. As a prosecutor, you are always arriving at an issue or case after the injustice has occurred. As a host and journalist on The Five and a legal and political analyst at Fox News I am able to tackle issues and stories and bring them to the public’s attention especially when the mainstream isn’t covering a story.

TVNewser to Greg Gutfeld: Since the show is live at 5pm (not taped and airing at 3am) how often to you have to check yourself before saying something that might not go over well with the audience or your co-hosts?

Greg Gutfeld: I never do. The whole point of doing something live is the risk. And I figure if you run something by someone, you ruin the spontaneity of the moment.  But If I think that what I might say might hurt their feelings, then I won’t do it.  Like yesterday,  I was going to bring up something that happened before the show. There was a group of school kids in studio for a tour. One of the children had asked Dana if he could take her picture. Dana said, “Do I go to your school and ask to take a picture of you?” Dana had a point, but that didn’t stop the child from crying. I was going to bring that up on the show, but I didn’t want to embarrass Dana, despite her obvious insensitivity towards America’s youth.

“I would expect this production to be at the DNC convention the night that Obama speaks,” huffed Hannity, calling the NBC News report an “infomercial” for the Obama campaign.

Fox News analyst Kimberly Guilfoyle agreed: “Why does he need a campaign or a team?” she asked, “He has the mainstream media. He has NBC throwing this all out for him,” said Guilfoyle, whose ex-husband, former San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom is getting is own show on Current TV this month.

As we reported earlier, Hannity wasn’t the only Fox News host going after NBC last night.

Newsom drew national attention as the Mayor of San Francisco, a position he leveraged into the Lt. Governorship. During his years as mayor, from 2001-2006 Newsom was married to former prosecutor Kimberly Guilfoyle, now host of Fox News’ “The Five.”

His new program will be called “The Gavin Newsom Show,” and will feature interviews with “notables from Silicon Valley, Hollywood and beyond.” Mia Haugen, a former CNN producer, will serve as EP.

Newsom will not be leaving public office, and will be paid a salary by Current, although it will be donated to charity, according to Brian Stelter.

“Gavin Newsom is a courageous leader who has boldly seized every opportunity to create positive social change,” commented Current TV Chairman and former Vice President Al Gore in a statement. “First as a successful entrepreneur, then in his role as Mayor of San Francisco, and now as Lieutenant Governor, Newsom touches many worlds – business, politics, entertainment and activism. We are honored that Current TV will be bringing his curiosity, intelligence, insights and enthusiasm to television.”

Imagine my surprise last Friday when I turned on my favorite guilty pleasure — Fox News’ The Five, its five-person, 5 p.m. five-days-a-week replacement for the full-fathom-five insanity of Glenn Beck — and saw little ol’ me getting slammed by the panel.

Tucker goes on to explain the slam by Greg Gutfeld, the host who “had been consigned to the wee hours of the morning where he gibbers through his dank-basement frat-party called “Red Eye” as well as the other panelists: “burly Eric Bolling,” “devilishly prim Dana Perino; that huggable grizzly bear in suspenders Bob Beckel,” and Kimberly Guilfoyle and her “ostentatiously framed legs.” Tucker surmises:

(W)hat comes across is the feeling that, unlike so much of what we see on squawky news talk shows, The Five five enjoy each other’s company — they squabble because they’re one big happy family, you know? The result is a delightfully nutty show with an undercurrent of ragin’ crazy.

“The Five” launched in July as a temporary replacement in the timeslot formerly held by Glenn Beck. Since that time, it has performed well enough toe warrant a continued presence, although it is still down from the ratings peaks of Beck’s time at the channel. Of course, ratings mean nothing if advertisers are afraid of a show, and many were of Beck’s program. As has been well-documented, many advertisers asked to be shifted to other shows to avoid having ads appear on Beck’s program, resulting in FNC having less inventory.

The show, a “The View”-like ensemble program, will feature a roundtable of five Fox News personalities from among the network’s deep bench of hosts and analysts, including Greg Gutfeld, Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Geraldo Rivera, Andrea Tantaros, Eric Bolling, Monica Crowley, Bob Beckel and Kimberly Guilfoyle.

In a news release, FNC says the program will also feature added guests, including politicians, celebrities, sports figures and key newsmakers. The show is expected to run through the summer months.

As we reported yesterday, Fox News will air encore presentations of Beck’s program next week.
