She was famous for escorting the famous around Washington, DC during White House Correspondents’ weekend. But this year, Fox News host Greta Van Susteren is taking a pass on the dinner April 27. “I made another commitment out of town that weekend,” she writes on GretaWire.

I am sure everyone will have fun – it is the one day of the year that the media, politicians, entertainers etc. socialize together – but it can also be a bit exhausting as it is a 2 1/2 day affair.

In recent years Van Susteren has played host to Kim Kardashian, Ozzie Osborn, and last year, Lindsay Lohan

But there was a backlash following last year’s star-studded dinner, by none other than NBC’s Tom Brokaw on “Meet the Press.”

“I think George Clooney is a great guy,” said Brokaw. “I’d like to meet Charlize Theron. But I don’t think the big press event in Washington should be that kind of glittering event where all the talk is about Cristal champagne, taking over the Italian Embassy, who had the best party. That’s another separation between what we’re supposed to be doing and what the people expect us to be doing.”

Greta tells Politico she will likely attend the annual brunch put on by Tammy Haddad on the day of the dinner.

• ABC’s Barbara Walters has scored an exclusive primetime sit down with troubled actress Lindsay Lohan. The interview will air on “20/20″ Friday, November 16, tied to the debut of Lohan’s Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick,” in which she plays Elizabeth Taylor.

On Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” NBC’s Tom Brokaw said it’s “time to rethink” the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, stating the star-studded event “separates the press from the people they’re supposed to serve.” Now Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren, who hosted Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian at last month’s dinner, is responding to Brokaw’s idea:

I am game to give Tom Brokaw’s idea a try next year – no more celebrities for our one big social night in Washington (WHCD) – but here is my request: in exchange, how do we get our colleagues in the media’s attention to such issues as genocide in Sudan?  does he have ideas? and could he help?

Van Susteren traveled to Sudan last month and has been writing of the region’s devastation on Gretawire since she returned.

“I thought it odd that the media had lots of interest in my guest list at the WHCD — but not any interest in the my video and pics showing genocide in Sudan,” she wrote. “Imagine if we could get someone with the star power of Tom Brokaw to be more interested in the genocide going on in the Sudan than the guest list at a social event! I would love that!”

As you know by now, Greta Van Susteren invited two Kardashians and a Lohan to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last night. Not surprisingly, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan (and Keith Olbermann, Barack Obama, Barbara Walters, cable news, Newt Gingrich, and more) made it into Jimmy Kimmel‘s monologue. At one point Kimmel asks Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, “Would you do us a favor? Would you mind driving Lindsay Lohan home? … Make sure you do not run into a goose. Especially a grey goose.”

That’s Greta’s husband John P. Coale sitting between Lohan and Kardashian. Our spies tell us Lohan did eat, but did not drink.

In 2010, it was Kim Kardashian.

Last year it was Sarah Palin.

This year, FNC’s Greta Van Susteren and her husband John P. Coale have outdone themselves. FishbowlDC reports the couple has invited Lindsay Lohan as their guest to this weekend’s White House Correspondents Dinner festivities. If history is any indication, this means LiLo will make the rounds at Tammy Haddad‘s Garden Brunch, the pre-Dinner cocktail parties, the dinner and an after party or five. But if anyone can chaperone an oft-busted starlet around DC, it’s Greta. At least we hope so.

The “Today” show anchors sure have range.

While Ann Curry begins her reports from Sudan this week, Matt Lauer sits down with Lindsay Lohan today. Lohan is in New York to host “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. Last Summer, Lauer traveled to Los Angeles where he was all set to interview Lohan, until she canceled at the last minute. Lohan “had a change of heart,” a “Today” spokesperson told us at the time.

Lauer’s interview airs Thursday.

Matt Lauer left the “Today” show early yesterday to hop a plane to Los Angeles with plans to interview troubled star Lindsay Lohan. But as TMZ reports, he’s on his way back to New York, without an interview.

We’re told Lindsay was actually in the makeup chair when things went south. Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ … Lauer’s team blindsided them by saying the interview would be extremely lengthy because producers were planning to put it on “Dateline” as well as “Today.”

A “Today” show spokesperson tells TVNewser Lohan, “had a change of heart and wasn’t prepared to talk for more than 15 minutes as she had agreed, so the interview was cancelled.”

ESPN’s Chris Berman was in rare form last night while calling the Cardinals-Giants game. First he dropped this bit of nonsensical information on viewers when discussing the Giants: “Well they have 7 walk off wins thus far, most of them at home.”

Most? By definition a walkoff win has to be accomplished at home, otherwise it wouldn’t be a walkoff win. Given how much Berman has covered baseball, we can only assume this was a momentary slip of the tongue — akin, perhaps, to something that happened later in the broadcast, when Berman, long known for his cute nicknames like Barry “U.S.” Bonds and Bert “Home” Blyleven, dropped a nickname for a sex act on St. Louis closer Fernando Salas. Yup, Berman called him “Tossed Salas.”

Sure, you can say Berman was actually referring to the garden variety “tossed salad,” but we have our doubts.

Of the four major U.S. cable news channels, two — CNN and HLN — covered the chaos live outside a Los Angeles County Courthouse this afternoon where troubled star Lindsay Lohan appeared on charges of felony grand-theft.

While HLN carried two minutes of live coverage, CNN spent five minutes of the 4pmET hour using multiple cameras — their own and those of CNN affiliates — trained on the black SUV as it pulled up to the courthouse, as Lohan emerged, as she walked into the courthouse, and capturing the crush of as many as 100 photographers as they tried to snap a photo of the alleged swindler through the mirrored glass facade of the Airport Courthouse, a few blocks from LAX.

Entertainment correspondent Kareen Wynter described the scene to anchor Brooke Baldwin: “We have photographers falling all over themselves right behind me. This is really typical, what you can expect when it comes to Lindsay Lohan. The madness. Someone just fell.”

CNN used chopper shots provided by Tribune-owned KTLA which was the only LA station to also carry live coverage of the chaos during their 1pmET newscast.
