‘Today’ Superfan Returns, While Another Faints

It was a good day and a bad day to be in the crowd outside of NBC’s “Today” studio this morning.

The good news: “Today” “superfan” Linny Boyette returned to the program after a long absence. Boyette had a health scare, and was welcomed back by Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie.

The bad news: right after Linny’s sppearance, someone else in the “Today” crowd had their own health problem, and the result was an ambulance parked right behind Lauer and Guthrie:

Ashleigh Banfield made her daytime debut on CNN today as the anchor of the network’s 11amET hour. Banfield, who makes the move from CNN’s “Early Start,” will anchor the newscast from New York.

Meteorologist Jacqui Jeras, who was cut from CNN in May after 13 years with the network, will begin at WJLA in Washington, DC next month, TVSpy reports.

“Today” superfan Linny Boyette was back at Studio 1A this morning on the show’s first day back from London. During the Olympics, Linny turned up at “GMA,” but it appears his allegiance to NBC remains intact now that the Games are done.

Beyond the ratings, here’s one more indicator of the “Today” show losing out to “Good Morning America.”

Page Six reports, “Today” show superfan Linny Boyette has switched allegiances. With “Today” in London, Boyette has been spotted across town at “GMA.”

“He has been there every morning this week,” one ABC insider told us, adding, “we’ve seen him both on- and off-camera.” Boyette even posed for a pic with Lara Spencer, Josh Elliott, Sam Champion and Amy Robach. Ripples were mostly made on a Facebook fan page devoted to Boyette. But it remains to be seen where he’ll wind up post-Olympics.

In 2010, TodayShow.com produced a story on Linny who takes the subway down from the Bronx every morning to watch the show from the plaza. Al Roker calls him “a good luck charm. When we don’t see him, we feel a little off.”

In the piece, Linny says Ann Curry was his favorite. “Everyone loves her and Meredith is #2,” Linny adds.
