NBC Promotes Madeleine Haeringer to EP of International News

madeleine haeringerMadeleine Haeringer has been promoted to executive producer of international news at NBC News, SVP of newsgathering David Verdi announced today.

“In this expanded role, Madeleine will manage the overall editorial agenda for the network’s foreign news coverage, and identify and develop our long-range international story planning. She will also continue to lead Richard Engel’s production unit as well as maintain oversight of our Olympics news coverage,” Verdi wrote in a note to staff this morning.

Haeringer has been the executive producer of Engel’s production unit since it was created last year. Before that, she was the senior producer of NBC worldwide newsgathering.

NBC News Hires Ben Plesser From CBS

nbc-newsBen Plesser has joined NBC News as the senior producer of chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel‘s production unit. Plesser comes from CBS News, where he has worked since 1999.

In his time at CBS, Plesser worked as a producer on “60 Minutes” and “Evening News.” Most recently, he has been a producer for CBS News foreign correspondent Clarissa Ward, who frequently reports from the same places Engel and his team travel. In 2011, he was the first Western journalist to report from Tripoli during the uprising in Libya.

Plesser joins executive producer Madeleine Haeringer and producer Jamie Novogrod in Engel’s production unit. He will be based in London.

NBC News Gives Richard Engel His Own Production Unit

NBC News is handing chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel his own production unit, which will produce both short-form and long-form pieces for all NBC News broadcasts and platforms.

The company has also named Madeleine Haeringer as the EP of the unit. Haeringer worked closely with Engel for years, and was most recently senior producer of NBC worldwide newsgathering.

“The Engel unit will not only deliver robust, real-time coverage of breaking international news such as the chaos currently unfolding in Egypt — but also pursue longer-lead reporting, carry out investigations, secure newsmaker interviews, and uncover stories of human interest and global significance,” wrote David Verdi, senior VP of newsgathering in an email to staff obtained by TVNewser. “The unit will combine speed, access, and analysis to bring our viewers and readers to the front lines of international developments wherever they take place.”

Madeleine Haeringer Upped at NBC News

Madeleine Haeringer has been named Senior Producer, Newsgathering for NBC News. Haeringer was promoted earlier this year to Coordinating Producer and has been NBC’s lead foreign producer working alongside war correspondent Richard Engel for several years. Haeringer has been producing from war zones for most of the last decade, including producing for Ashleigh Banfield‘s MSNBC show in the early days of the war in Afghanistan. In her new role, she’ll manage major breaking foreign and domestic stories in the field across all NBC News platforms.
