Madoff, Mariah Help Make 20/20 Friday’s #1 Show

ABC’s “20/20,” which featured Chris Cuomo‘s interview with the daughter-in-law of Bernard Madoff as well as Barbara Walters‘s interview with Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon was the #1 show of the night in two of the younger demos: A18-49 and A25-54. Cuomo’s interview with Stephanie Madoff Mack was the first time many of the Madoff family secrets have been revealed. In Walters’s sit-down interview with Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon, the couple discussed details of their struggle to conceive and Carey’s high-risk pregnancy.

This was the show’s best viewership in more than 18 months, since February 2010, and its highest A18-49 rating since January 2010. Going head-to-head “20/20″ more than doubled “Dateline NBC” in the demo (2.1 vs. 1.0) and nearly doubled in Total Viewers (7.6M vs. 3.9M). “20/20″ helped make ABC #1 for the night in Adults 18-49.

ESPN personalities (that means everyone except Chris Berman) will have to think twice before sending out that next tweet.

The network rolled out their revamped policy when it comes to social media. Some highlights:

• Think before your tweet. Understand that at all times you are representing ESPN, and Twitter (as with other social sites) offers the equivalent of a live microphone. Simple rule: If you wouldn’t say it on the air or write it in a column, don’t post it on any social network. Read more

The Ticker: Sean & Deborah, Matt & Mariah, Babs & Bruno…

> Sean Goldman, the young boy at the center of an international custody battle, along with his step father, Joao Paulo Lins e Silva, will speak exclusively to CNN’s Deborah Feyerick tomorrow on CNN’s American Morning, 6-9amET, with Feyerick reporting live from Rio De Janiero.

> NBC just announced that Mariah Carey is the season-ending performer for the Today show’s Toyota Concert Series Friday, Aug. 28. She’ll perform her new hit single “Obsessed.” This Friday, it’s “The All American Rejects.”

> Barbara Walters has no patience for Bruno. This morning on “The View,” Walters called the movie “almost as pornographic as any pornographic thing that I’ve seen,” adding, “I think this will make people, if you’re not homophobic, it could make you.”
