  • Former CBS “Early Show” EP Zev Shalev has joined WPIX in New York. Shalev will EP the 5-hour morning show at the CW affiliate. Shalev was hired by WPIX news director and former MSNBC VP Mark Effron.

  • Chris Matthewslatest book, “Tip and the Gipper” comes out Tuesday. The 448-pager delves into the relationship between ideological opposites Pres. Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Tip O’Neill. Matthews was an aide to O’Neill for 6 years.

  • ABC’s Barbara Walters celebrated her 84th birthday Wednesday. On “The View” today she thanked fans for their well-wishes and name-dropped a couple of them: “Nancy Reagan, who watches us all the time, sent greetings. The Israeli ambassador (the the UN) Ron Proser…”

Former MSNBC Boss to WNYC/Public Radio

Mark Effron, who for four years was MSNBC’s VP of daytime programming, is heading to WNYC and Public Radio International to be the Executive Producer of ‘The Takeaway,’ the national morning drive news program. After leaving MSNBC in 2006, Effron was president and COO of Titan TV.

The Takeaway, is hosted by one-time NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host John Hockenberry. It is a co-production of Public Radio International and WNYC Radio, in editorial collaboration with The BBC World Service, The New York Times, and WGBH Boston Radio.
