Glenn Beck dropped by his old workplace this morning, appearing on “Fox & Friends” to promote GBTV. Beck was also on “The O’Reilly Factor” last night (clip after the jump). In addition, CBS News’s Michelle Miller reported on Beck’s launch this morning for the “Early Show.” Images below from last night’s premiere of “Glenn Beck ” airing on GBTV from 5-7pm.

CBS News Slates Royal Wedding Coverage Plans

CBS news is the latest organization to slate its coverage of the upcoming Royal Wedding.

“CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric will lead the network’s coverage, and will anchor the evening news program from London beginning the Wednesday before the wedding, April 27.

“The Early Show”‘s Erica Hill will also be in London, and will co-anchor from the Tower of London starting Monday, April 25.

On Friday, Couric and Hill will anchor live starting at 5 AM ET, joined by correspondents Elizabeth Palmer, Troy Roberts, Michelle Miller and Ben Tracy, as well as “Royals contributor” Victoria Arbiter.

That evening at 8 PM CBS will have a primetime special, “The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty.”

Katrina Anniversary Coverage Update

We have some updates to our roundup of news network coverage for the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina:

CBS: Harry Smith will anchor “The Early Show” from New Orleans on Friday the 27th for full anniversary coverage throughout the program, including reports from correspondents Michelle Miller and Betty Nguyen. Mark Strassman will report that day for “Evening News” and Jeff Greenfield will have a report for “CBS Sunday Morning.” Russ Mitchell will anchor Sunday’s “Evening News” from New Orleans as well. The Saturday “Early Show” and “Evening News” will also provide coverage.
CNN: Anderson Cooper will anchor “AC360″ from New Orleans Wednesday-Friday this week. The network will air an “AC360″ special on Thursday titled, “In Katrina’s Wake Building Up America.” More: John Roberts anchors “American Morning” on Friday from the Lower 9th Ward. Soledad O’Brien will report live.
Fox News: Jonathan Hunt, Trace Gallagher, and Arthel Neville will be reporting from the Gulf for “Studio B” and “Fox Report” starting on Thursday the 26th.
The Newseum in Washington DC has a new exhibit opening Friday examining press coverage of Katrina.

Newsers Step Out for Byron Pitts Book Party

After dropping in at the TVNewser party downtown, we headed uptown to the Plaza Hotel where friends, family and colleagues gathered to celebrate the publication of CBS News correspondent Byron Pitts‘ book “Step Out on Nothing: How Family and Faith Helped Me Conquer Life’s Challenges.”

The room was packed with CBS, ABC and NBC newsers including CBS News and Sports president Sean McManus and NBC News president Steve Capus. Also on hand, “60 Minutes” EP Jeff Fager, GMA senior EP Jim Murphy, who worked for years at CBS; as did Mika Brzezinski now with MSNBC. Also, Lesley Stahl, Harry Smith, Hoda Kotb, Jeff Greenfield, Michelle Miller and Mara Schiavocampo.

“Step Out on Nothing,” which we began to read on the subway ride home, is an intensely personal look at how Pitts went from a functionally illiterate child to ascend to the ranks of network correspondent. He recounts being a youth trying to overcome a pronounced stutter to the nervousness he felt decades later as he sat in the “60 Minutes” studio for the first time.

The National Center for Family Literacy co-sponsored the book party. Pitts becomes the first author to join the NCFL’s “A Penny a Book” initiative to benefit family literacy across the country.

“Black in America” Packs Time Warner Center

The 10th floor theater at the Time Warner Center was packed with hundreds of guests last night for a preview of CNN’s new Black in America series — so much so, two overflow rooms were needed.

Before the crowds watched a 30-minute preview of three upcoming specials, Time Warner chairman Dick Parsons addressed the audience. “I think they had an ulterior motive asking me here, but I can’t figure out what it is, other than that I’m black in America,” he joked.

“It’s time to start looking at things in a new prism,” he said about the documentaries.

Angela Burt-Murray, Essence editor-in-chief called the project the most “comprehensive” in media history and O’Brien called the 18-months of work, a “labor of love.”

“We needed to get our facts right but we needed to get our stories right too,” she said. “Two very different things.”

At a reception following the screening, CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein told TVNewser Black in America is getting high marks at its screenings and through an email campaign. “You can’t force people to do it. It was organic,” he said. “Viewers are responding to it. It’s been surprising and encouraging.”
