A Familiar Voice on the CNBC Series ‘Titans’

Viewers of the CNBC documentary series “Titans” could be forgiven for thinking that the voiceover presenter sounds a little familiar. On last night’s episode, and a number of others, the man doing the voiceover was Mike Schneider. Schneider is a veteran of just about every TV news outlet. He has served as a correspondent and anchor for ABC News, NBC News, Fox News and most recently Bloomberg.

Florida Runs Your News

Growing up in South Florida, I should have known I would someday end up somehow involved in TV news. For better or worse, the state of Florida — and in particular the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market — has had maybe the biggest impact on the television news industry outside New York and LA.

For one, the number of major national anchors who did stints in South Florida will astound you. CNN’s Larry King and “60 Minutes” correspondent Steve Kroft both did stints at WPLG very early in their careers. King also once worked at current NBC O&O WTVJ, where Katie Couric would later be a general assignment reporter.

“Get this,” says current-HLN anchor and former Miami anchor/health reporter Robin Meade. “When I was at WSVN in 1994-ish, I did the mornings. Rick Sanchez was the main anchor at the station. Shepherd Smith was a street reporter for the same channel. Linda Stouffer (former HLN anchor) was the weekend morning anchor. And Charles Molineaux (former HLN anchor) was my co-anchor in the morning. Soon after I left, I believe Shawn Robinson started doing the mornings there before heading to access Hollywood.”

Bloomberg Cuts 100 From Radio/TV Division

As first reported by two U.K. newspapers, TVNewser confirms Bloomberg is cutting 100 jobs in the radio and television groups. Forty-five from the New York newsroom.

“We have eliminated around 100 positions in the U.S. and are considering some additional redundancies in Europe, UK and Japan, specifically in radio and television,” Bloomberg’s head of PR, Judith Czelusniak, tells TVNewser. “We’re reorganizing the radio and TV operation into an English-language global 24/7 business network.”

Despite the cuts in TV/Radio, Bloomberg is “hiring around 1,000 employees this year in print news, product development, sales and customer service.”

The major shake-up comes less than four months after Bloomberg’s new CEO, Andy Lack, took over the network. “The business television viewer needs a universal perspective that is not now available on any financial network — and only Bloomberg has all the pieces,” says Czelusniak. “Andy is here to put those pieces together into a global network.”

Yesterday TVNewser reported Mike Schneider had been let go from the network and his 10pmET show “Night Talk” canceled. That followed the departure of Bloomberg TV (U.S.) managing editor John Meehan last month.

Schneider Out At Bloomberg; Night Talk Canceled

Breaking: TVNewser confirms Bloomberg TV anchor Mike Schneider has been let go from the network, and his 10pmET program, Night Talk, has been canceled. The news was first reported by TheMediaIsDying on Twitter.

We hear the slot will be occupied tonight by global reporting on the opening of the Asia and European markets.

A TV insider notes this is the second time Schneider has been let go from an Andy Lack operation. Lack, who joined Bloomberg as CEO in October, was Schneider’s boss at NBC News in the mid 1990′s.

Schneider has reported and anchored for ABC, NBC and Fox News before joining Bloomberg in 2003.

The event may have been to honor the best in business reporting, but the buzz at the top of the Rock this afternoon was who would be taking over the nation’s #1 public affairs show — David Gregory‘s soon-to-be announced gig as moderator of Meet the Press.

Insiders tell TVNewser Richard Leibner, who was at the event, was telling people he is “David Gregory’s agent of record” but that he was not involved in the negotiations. Which means Gregory most likely worked with an attorney to negotiate the deal. TVNewser has learned Tom Brokaw will make the announcement this Sunday after his interview with Pres.-elect Barack Obama.

On hand at today’s luncheon: Morley Safer, Dan Rather, Christiane Amanpour, Mike Schneider and Anthony Mason.

As for the Emmys, held at the Rainbow Room at 30 Rock, ABC, CBS, Bloomberg and PBS all took home two awards each. CNBC and Minyanville.com took home one each. The press release is after the jump…
