Quite a turnout last night at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, DC, as Bob Schieffer was honored on his 20th anniversary anchoring CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

More than 500 people turned out to honor Schieffer, including the man who’s guested more times than anyone else: “I gotta say one word about the person who has been on ‘Face the Nation’ more than any other person in the history of the broadcast,” said Schieffer. “He’s actually older than me, not by much: John McCain over here.”

CBS News chairman Jeff Fager and president David Rhodes threw the party which was attended by elected officials, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), below, and current and former administration reps, including Donald Rumsfeld, below, as well as Schieffer’s CBS colleagues including Jan Crawford, Chip Reid, Lara Logan, Bill Plante, and Nancy Cordes and from other networks, FNC’s Ed Henry, CNN’s Gloria Borger, NBC’s David Gregory and Betsy Fischer and PBS’s Gwen Ifill, Judy Woodruff, and Jim Lehrer. Also on hand Carin Pratt, who helmed the show for 18 years.

“We just love Carin,” said Schieffer. “I really appreciate your coming back and being with us tonight.”

“Mary Hager … is now the [executive] producer. And Senator McCain remembers Mary Hager when the two of us were chasing up and down the halls of Congress. And Mary has actually worked with me, I guess, more than 20 years. And she started very, very young — she asked me to say that.”

Shooting fish in a barrel, I admit. But has there ever been such an unfortunate pairing of surname and scandal? How could anyone not gorge on double-entendres when the perp’s name is a euphemism for the very source of the imbroglio?

Neil Goldberg was charged with public indecency, simple trespass, disorderly conduct and breach of peace, according to police in Connecticut. Last month, a neighbor walking her dog spotted Goldberg standing on a stool and masturbating while peering in a window. Goldberg later admitted to police that he watched his neighbor get dressed in her bedroom.

The 52-year-old Goldberg is a coordinating producer for ESPN’s motorsports coverage. He posted $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court later this month in Hartford, Conn.

Zucker was a featured guest at Women@NBCU’s annual ‘Power of the Purse Breakfast’ this morning at Cipriani’s on 42nd Street in New York. Zucker hosted the keynote discussion with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

In introducing her boss, Lauren Zalaznick, president of NBCU’s Women & Lifestyle Entertainment Networks, said Zucker was the perfect emcee because “here and in the boardroom, he’s certain to ask the tough questions and demand tough answers.”

“This Week with Christiane Amanpour” debuted this morning on ABC with the veteran foreign correspondent telling viewers, “After 20 years covering the world, the story in this country is turning into one of the most fascinating.”

The headline from Amanpour’s two headliner guests, Secy. Robert Gates and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, both pre-taped on Friday to accommodate their schedules, was their disagreement on the pace of U.S. troops leaving Afghanistan.

While the host was new, the round-table consisted of three familiar names: George Will, Donna Brazile and Paul Krugman and a new face who fit with Amanpour’s goal of giving the show a more outside-the-beltway feel: from Madrid, Amanpour welcomed Ahmed Rashid, who was billed as “the world authority on the Taliban.” The opening voice-over also featured a new tagline featuring the global focus: “From all across our world to the heart of our nation’s capitol.”

There was new music from trumpeter Chris Botti and a new show open and set backdrop, changing out the blue “This Week” logo with a map of the world in red. The Sunday funnies remained.

Following this morning’s show Amanpour told TVNewser, “It’s great to finally be underway, and I’m so pleased to have had two great first guests and a wonderful round table. I’m excited about having this platform to explore the issues that affect Americans. MSNBC stayed with Obama, switching to Pelosi after about 3 minutes. Fox News did not take any of Obama. CNN switched to Pelosi only after Obama had finished.

Roll Call reports Fox News producer Chad Pergram, “got a bit hot under the collar with a photographer who had been jostling him” during the briefing. An insider tells TVNewser the photographer, who was either “new or doesn’t cover the Hill very much,” tried to push his way into position, past a videographer and into Pergram, when Pelosi began to leave.

But she was pulled back to the podium by a final question, and the bumping continued. After the briefing ended, the verbal sparring between Pergram and the photog did not.

Still, it never reached Vince Morris-like levels.
