The Only Network to Provide Live of Speaker Pelosi? It’s Not CNN or MSNBC

pelosi_11.7.jpgSo, we wonder if the White House still thinks Fox News is “not a news network.” Tonight, Fox News was the only news channel [other than C-SPAN] to provide live coverage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi making her way to the house chamber, then speaking to members ahead of tonight’s vote on health care reform. CNN stayed with a taped replay of The Situation Room. MSNBC was airing a crime documentary, but mentioned that Pelosi was speaking during a scheduled live cut-in. FNC and MSNBC have teased they’ll have coverage of the vote when it happens. CNN returns to live coverage at 7pmET.

Chris Matthews Hosts Event Honoring Fathers

The National Father’s Day Committee held their 68th annual “Father of the Year” awards lunch today in New York, emceed by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. Recipients ranged from Michael Krzyzewski (“Coach K”) to Gen. David Petraeus, who was not in attendance. Also honored was ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, who missed the pre-lunch news conference due to some weather delays.

We talked to Matthews about what it means to be involved in this event, ABC’s upcoming special and more. Part two (featuring Matthews’ thoughts on Dick Cheney and Nancy Pelosi) is after the jump:

Decision, Decisions: Pres. Speech at Naval Academy or Nancy Pelosi Briefing

After yesterday’s dueling speeches from Pres. Barack Obama and former VP Dick Cheney, this morning the cablers had another programming decision to make: Pres. Obama speaking at the Naval Academy commencement or House Speaker Nancy Pelosi giving her weekly briefing, with heightened interest about her CIA commments from last week. (She didn’t talk about it today).

CNN and MSNBC aired Obama from the beginning. FNC aired Pelosi from the beginning.

MSNBC stayed with Obama, switching to Pelosi after about 3 minutes. Fox News did not take any of Obama. CNN switched to Pelosi only after Obama had finished.

FNC Producer Involved in Scuffle at Pelosi Briefing

pelosi_5-15.jpgSpeaker of the House Nancy Pelosi‘s news-making briefing yesterday was not the only excitement in the room — some press members got into a scuffle as well.

Roll Call reports Fox News producer Chad Pergram, “got a bit hot under the collar with a photographer who had been jostling him” during the briefing. An insider tells TVNewser the photographer, who was either “new or doesn’t cover the Hill very much,” tried to push his way into position, past a videographer and into Pergram, when Pelosi began to leave.

But she was pulled back to the podium by a final question, and the bumping continued. After the briefing ended, the verbal sparring between Pergram and the photog did not.

Still, it never reached Vince Morris-like levels.

This Week’s Other Big Get

Following up on Blago, the broadcast and cable networks are going after Ted Haggard, the once mighty evangelical pastor who resigned in disgrace after admitting soliciting a male prostitute for sex and drugs. Haggard is the subject of an HBO documentary “The Trials of Ted Haggard” which premieres Thursday night.

Haggard will appear on Good Morning America Thursday morning, Larry King Live Thursday night and on the Early Show on CBS Friday morning.

Last night on Anderson Cooper 360, the documentary’s producer Alexandra Pelosi talked about the making of the documentary. Pelosi is a former NBC News producer and the daughter of Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Blitzer’s Final “Late Edition”: Cheney, Pelosi

blitzer_1-9c.jpgCNN’s Wolf Blitzer‘s final “Late Edition” this weekend will feature two high profile interviews — with Vice President Dick Cheney and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Both interviews are being taped today.

Blitzer has anchored “Late Edition” for 11 years. John King begins anchoring “State of the Union” next weekend.

It’s been a busy couple days for Blitzer. He flew from D.C. to L.A. on Wednesday, anchored from L.A. on Thursday, took the red eye back to D.C. last night and interviewed both politicians this afternoon. Click continued to see where else Blitzer stopped by during his West Coast trip (and why you may see him dancing on The Situation Room today)…

Scenes From The Floor

dnc_8-24.gifFor President Bill Clinton‘s speech at the Democratic National Convention tonight, we made our way out to the convention floor and grabbed some video.

We stationed ourselves near the CNN BPTOT stage, where Anderson Cooper and John King watched the speech intently, while the rest of the panel seemed a bit less interested. See the video of the scene from the floor, and after the jump, more videos (including our run-in with Dennis Kucinich, what the convention floor looks like at 9:15amET and more):
