  • Former CBS “Early Show” EP Zev Shalev has joined WPIX in New York. Shalev will EP the 5-hour morning show at the CW affiliate. Shalev was hired by WPIX news director and former MSNBC VP Mark Effron.

  • Chris Matthewslatest book, “Tip and the Gipper” comes out Tuesday. The 448-pager delves into the relationship between ideological opposites Pres. Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Tip O’Neill. Matthews was an aide to O’Neill for 6 years.

  • ABC’s Barbara Walters celebrated her 84th birthday Wednesday. On “The View” today she thanked fans for their well-wishes and name-dropped a couple of them: “Nancy Reagan, who watches us all the time, sent greetings. The Israeli ambassador (the the UN) Ron Proser…”

PBS to Air Extended Interview of Nancy Reagan

On what would have been former President Ronald Reagan‘s 100th birthday, PBS will air “Nancy Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime” tonight at 10pmET (local listings may vary).

At the center of the biopic is an extended interview of the former First Lady by Judy Woodruff, who covered the Reagan administration as a White House correspondent. The documentary also will feature interviews with friends, family, and administration insiders, as well as rare photos and film footage, according to a press release.

The documentary is part of PBS’s “Modern First Ladies” series.  The first installment focused on Lady Bird Johnson, with the second a profile of Betty Ford.

AC360 Team Receives January Sidney Award

CNN photojournalist Neil Hallsworth, “AC360″ EP Charlie Moore, and Anderson Cooper were presented with the Sidney Hillman Foundation Award today in NYC for their coverage of the earthquake in Haiti (photo below). Cooper was out in LA over the weekend where he attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and was seen driving around with Nancy Reagan.

After taping Monday’s show at the Ronald Regan Library in Simi Valley, CA on Sunday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski posed for a photo with former first lady Nancy Reagan at the library’s Discovery Center — a section with a replica of the Reagan oval office.

Morning Joe is on a west coast road trip that will take them live to Carlsbad tomorrow and Wednesday. More info here

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski will be waking up really early this week. The co-hosts will broadcast from four different locations on the West Coast this week.

Today, the team is pre-taping tomorrow’s show from the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA, in front of a studio audience. Nancy Reagan will be a guest on the program. Willie Geist and Mike Barnicle will be live at MSNBC studios for news and other updates.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Scarborough and Brzezinski will originate live from Carlsbad at the FORTUNE Most Powerful Women Summit. Brzezinski is on a panel at the summit on Tuesday.

On Wednesday afternoon, Joe & Mika will throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Then it’s on to Seattle for Thursday’s broadcast at — where else? — a Starbucks. The Seattle-based coffee company sponsors the show.

Then it’s back to California for Friday’s show live from San Francisco.
