SNY Not Laughing Over Family Guy Clip

Following an opening-night loss to the Florida Marlins, an employee of SNY, the Mets’ network, played a clip from Family Guy over broadcaster Gary Cohen that makes fun of the ballclub.

The clip (see above) features Stewie Griffin and pokes fun at the Mets’ struggles in recent years.

“It was a very poor decision by an individual employee and the matter is being dealt with internally,” said Andrew Fegyveresi, an SNY spokesman.

Jalen Rose Suspended From ESPN For DUI Arrest

ESPN NBA analyst Jalen Rose has been suspended from the network after waiting three weeks before coming forward regarding his DUI arrest on March 11.

“Jalen has accepted full responsibility for his actions. Both parties are taking this very seriously, and as a result, we’ve agreed that he will not be on our air while he addresses this situation,” ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz told USA Today in an email.

Kelly McBride and Regina McCombs of The Poynter Institute wrote Thursday that ESPN learned of Rose’s arrest when his agent called the network as WDIV in Detroit was preparing to break the news. Read more

SB Nation Launches Baseball Nation

SB Nation is putting its big hire Rob Neyer to good use starting today, as the company launches Baseball Nation. The site will cover everything baseball, led by Neyer and a team of bloggers that includes minorleagueball.com founder John Sickels, and team bloggers Jeff Sullivan and Grant Brisbee, who will assume a more national beat.

“We’ve quite simply always been the leader of coverage in baseball on a team-by-team basis and now with Rob Neyer leading the coverage at Baseball Nation, we’ll be the leader on a national level,” said SB Nation founder Tyler Bleszinski in a blog post.

In many respects the site is aiming to be a new type of baseball site. Driven by what the fans are interested in, but featuring professional quality content. And yes, visitors can contribute as well.

“Seriously (for the moment) … We’re all in this thing together. Tell us what we’re doing right, tell us what we’re doing wrong, and … just tell us whatever’s on your mind,” wrote Neyer in a post. “We are you. You are us. We live in a brave new world.”

Jamie Moyer To Join ESPN's Baseball Tonight

While he’s not officially retired, pitcher Jamie Moyer will spend this season working as a analyst for Baseball Tonight. ESPN is expected to formally announce the addition of Moyer on Wednesday and his debut will come on Thursday.

Moyer had surgery last December to replace the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He suffered the injury while pitching in the Dominican Winter Leagues.

At 48, Moyer hopes to pitch again in 2012.

“It’s been mentioned that I’d do well, blah, blah,” Moyer told USA Today on his new television career. “And as a player, you never know when your last year will be. And I’m not convinced I’ve had my last day.”
