Former President Ronald Reagan would have turned 100 years old tomorrow. So this weekend, the news networks are offering special programming honoring the legacy of the 40th President of the United States.

CNN chief national correspondent John King will anchor special coverage of the Reagan Centennial Celebration live from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, tomorrow from 2-4pmET. Attendees at the event include former Secretary of State James Baker, former Vice President Dick Cheney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and cabinet members of the Reagan administration.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” will broadcast live from the Library tomorrow as well. Guests include Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry and Baker. There will be a round-table discussion with Baker, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan, former San Francisco mayor and state assembly Speaker Willie Brown, and NBC News White House Correspondent during the Reagan administration, Andrea Mitchell.

Fox News Channel will air stories and vignettes throughout the weekend that will focus on the milestone moments in Reagan’s life: his Hollywood career, his marriage to Nancy, political campaigns, the presidency, and his retirement from public life. Tomorrow night, Fox News will re-air “Reagan’s Resolve” documentary. Fox News Los Angeles correspondent Casey Stegall will be reporting live from the Reagan Library on Sunday.

“Good question,” says Stahl, who joined “60″ in 1991. “I have no idea. They [my bosses] know I think we should have more women. I think it would be wonderful. It would be great for the audience.”

Over 40 seasons, Stahl is only the third full-time woman correspondent to have broken into “60′s” boys club, along with Diane Sawyer and Meredith Vieira. At 67, she is the second-youngest member of the crew, behind Steve Kroft, 64.

With face time already at a premium, it may be a while before executive producer Jeff Fager adds a full-timer of either gender.

Still, Stahl says she frequently suggests names of “accomplished women,” not all of them correspondents. “This is kind of a running subject – who’s out there? It’s something that’s tossed around all the time.”

Stahl knows from tossing. Her demanding travel schedule limits her time for wowowow.com, the Web site she co-founded and co-owns.

The most talked about tea party quote came from President Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod on CBS’ Face the Nation. “The thing that bewilders me is this President just cut taxes for 95% of the American people, so I think the teabags should be directed elsewhere,” he said. Later in the morning, Axelrod’s comments were discussed on CNN’s State of the Union.

On ABC’s This Week, the panel spent nearly nine minutes discussing the parties. “The coverage itself was so politically charged,” said Peggy Noonan. “Liberal newspapers were subtly dismissive, conservative cable news houses were more than subtly supportive.”

David Gregory brought the tea parties up several times on NBC’s Meet the Press, including during his interview with National Economic Council director Larry Summers. “I’ve been surprised by these tea parties,” he said.

On FOX News Sunday, Chris Wallace asked his guests, Sens. Lindsey Graham and Claire McCaskill, for their take, but also brought it up during the panel.

Brit Hume noted it was “ignored by some in the media,” while Juan Williams said, “I think a lot of it is media generated.”

“This was a good conservative group, and we just had a great back and forth,” he said. “And he wants to keep the dialogue going with conservatives.”

Also at the dinner were Peggy Noonan, Paul Gigot and FNC contributors Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer. “He is charming, he is terribly smart, bright, well-informed, he has a great sense of humor,” said Kudlow.

Meanwhile Politico’s Michael Calderone writes about a meeting today between Obama and liberal commentators. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was among those in attendance.

TVNewser twittered the first panel, moderated by Campbell Brown, and featuring this line of from Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter that got the biggest laughs (on trying to book Gore Vidal on TV): “They want him to talk about Marilyn Monroe, he wants to talk about James Monroe.”

The second panel, moderated by the New York Times’ Frank Rich, featured CBS’ Jeff Greenfield, journalist/author Peggy Noonan, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin and others. Greenfield brought up the way the journalist-politician trust has changed. He reminisced how Lyndon Johnson once said, “If I’ve lost Walter Cronkite, I’ve lost the country,” regarding Vietnam. “Who could you say that about today?” he asked.

Noonan used some descriptive language to talk TV news options. “If you want to take a warm bath in George Bush‘s greatness, you will go straight to Fox,” she said. “If you want to take a cold shower in ‘George Bush is the devil,’ you will go straight to (Keith) Olbermann.”

After the panel, Greenfield grabbed a few of the panelists, including moderator Rich (pictured) for a potential CBS package. We also turned the tables and interviewed Greenfield (after the jump).

Two final notes about the TVNewser twittered final panel, featuring a lively interview between Anderson Cooper and Lewis Black (and the audience). If there is a way to get video of Black’s total excoriating of an audience member who blamed big government for the country’s problems, we’ll search for it. Black later somewhat apologized, and said he only got so worked up because of something that happened earlier in the day. But it did leave Cooper slightly uncomfortable. “This isn’t awkward for me at all,” joked Cooper.

Also, an audience member asked the CNN anchor if he ever wanted to just scream his opinion about an issue he was covering. “The last thing anyone wants to hear is some overpaid, blow-dried news anchor giving their opinion,” Cooper said. “I think there’s enough of those already.”

With three panels going on at a time in some instances, the late afternoon saw a split of two active sessions. In a religion and politics session, CNN contributors Roland Martin and Amy Holmes joined others in the discussion. When moderator Steve Waldman introduced Martin, identifying him as from the “left,” Martin immediately countered. “That introduction is part of the problem with the religion conversation,” he said. He also had some qualms with the name of the panel, which called for a discussion of the “‘new’ new rules” of religion and politics.

Holmes, who described herself as both a “non-believer” and a “blue state girl with red state politics,” said race has been a hot issue during the campaign, but religion has been less covered. “The media loves to talk about race, but I would ask to keep your eye on the religion issue,” she said.

In another room, CNN’s Candy Crowley, former Hillary Clinton strategist Mark Penn, Time Magazine’s Mark Halperin and others were discussing the media’s performance in the 2008 campaign. The overwhelming response — not good.

“The press is suffering,” said Penn. “Now they’re seen as increasingly partisan.” Crowley was asked if “people hiss at you” on the campaign trails. “Sure, but that’s not new,” she said.

The most biting critique was Halperin’s, who moves between ABC and all the cablers regularly as an analyst. He described the “irresponsible job the press has done when given access” during this election cycle. “We’ve done a bad job,” he said.

MNSBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinkski moderated the panel which touched on issues of blogs as a source of breaking political news, the vitriol that exists on some left and right wing blogs and the concern that the anonymity provided to blog commenters only fuels the hate.

The panel was filled with the likes of Arianna Huffington, Laura Ingraham, Tony Blankley, Frank Luntz and Peggy Noonan. But moderator Scarbourough took the mics into the crowd getting the thoughts of Joe Klein, Margaret Carlson and his MSNBC colleague Tucker Carlson.

Carlson, who was personally called out four years ago by Jon Stewart for hosting a show that was “hurting America,” today said intolerance on the Web is “what is hurting America.”

“And I’m saying this as the former host of Crossfire,” he told the audience of about 100 people at the Nicollet Island Inn in Minneapolis.
