Former ‘Katie’ Topper Rachel Miskowiec Joins ‘GMA’ as 8am EP

GMA Social SquareRachel Miskowiec, who was EP of “Katie” for its final season joins “Good Morning America” as executive producer of the 8am hour. Also announced today, Chris Vlasto who has been senior broadcast producer of “GMA” since 2006, has been named EP of the 7am hour. Both will report to Senior EP Tom Cibrowski. “Chris has been instrumental in driving us to number one, and I’m confident he will continue to help lead the broadcast to even better days ahead with his amazingly competitive spirit,” Cibrowkski writes in an email to his team, obtained by TVNewser.

Miskowiec, who will partner with 8am senior producer Margo Baumgart, has a background in daytime entertainment. Before “Katie” she was an executive producer at Telepictures working on shows including “Dr Drew’s Lifechangers,” and “Bethenny.” She’s also worked for reality production house Mark Burnett Productions and spent 9 years at Sony supervising shows including “Ricki Lake,” and “Judge Hatchett.” Adding Miskowiec could mean “GMA” is once again looking at extending the brand into daytime following the summer of 2012 experimentation with “Good Afternoon America.”

Local Stations Hold Their Breath As ‘Katie’ Changes Things Up For Season Two

The local TV stations that carry Katie Couric‘s Disney-ABC talk show “Katie” are hopeful that season two of the program will deliver stronger ratings.

B&C’s Michael Malone talks to a few of the local affiliates, some of whom are pleased with the show, although most are disappointed

“The results have not been as strong as we would’ve liked,” says Emily Barr, former WLS Chicago general manager who now heads up the Post-Newsweek group. “We hope there’s some changing and tweaking to improve the connection with the audience…

“To be fair, Katie is the highest rated new talk show,” says Bill Carroll, VP and director of programming at Katz Television Group. “Are ratings meeting expectations? Probably not.”

Of course, new “Katie” EP Rachel Miskowiec has plans to change things up in season two. She talks to B&C’s Paige Albiniak about what she has in store (subscription required):

‘Katie’ Shakes Up Leadership Team, as Co-EPs and Director Exit

After just a few weeks running Katie Couric‘s syndicated talk show “Katie,” Rachel Miskowiec is shaking up the leadership team there.

Two of the program’s co-executive producers, Kathy Samuels and Ethan Nelson, are departing. Samuels joined the program before it launched last year, while Nelson came on board earlier this year.

Also departing is director Joe Terry, Oprah Winfrey‘s old director, who joined the program at launch. B&C’s Paige Albiniak has more on the departures.

Syndicated TV is rife with staff turnaround, particularly at the top of the food chain. “Katie” debuted to a successful first season, but the numbers were not as high as the studio was hoping, resulting in the addition of Miskowiec, the former EP of “The Tyra Banks Show.”

Rachel Miskowiec Named EP of ‘Katie’

Daytime talk show “Katie” continus to have changes in its senior production ranks, with former EPs Jeff Zucker and Michael Bass now at CNN. Disney/ABC has announced that Rachel Miskowiec is joining the show as EP, replacing Michael Morrison, who joined in January after Zucker’s departure.

Miskowiec joins Katie Couric‘s daytime program from Telepictures, and was previously an EP on “The Tyra Banks Show.”

“Rachel Miskowiec is an incredibly passionate and experienced veteran of daytime TV,” said Vicki Dummer, EVP, ABC Media Group in a statement. “She is creative, smart and a great leader.  Rachel is fearless and competitive, and she truly loves making daytime television.  We are very excited to have her join the ‘Katie’ team as we enter our second season.”
