2012 TVNewser March Madness Bracket Challenge: The Winner Is…

With Kentucky’s 67-59 win over Kansas last night, March Madness has officially come to an end. That also means that it is time to declare a winner in TVNewser’s 2012 March Madness bracket challenge.

Your 2012 TVNewser bracket challenge winner is…

Fox Business Network stocks editor Liz MacDonald!

“It was great fun going up against really tough competition,” MacDonald says. “I am honored and thrilled to be this year’s champion.”

It was a close match this year, with CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux and Kyra Phillips very close behind MacDonald in the standings. This is the second straight year that a competitor for one of the business news networks won. Last year’s winner was Bloomberg TV’s Dominic Chu. Chu also had a good showing this year, placing ninth.

In last place, tragically, was your humble TVNewser editor, who clearly needs to reevaluate his college basketball picking skills. My strategy of picking teams who had cool mascots (Blue Devils? Awesome!) may not have been the most sound.

Your 2011 TVNewser Bracket Champion Is…

March Madness is over, and UConn has emerged victorious. The UConn win also means that the 2011 TVNewser Bracket Challenge is over.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2011 TVNewser March Madness Bracket Challenge winner: Bloomberg TV markets reporter Dominic Chu.

He won in commanding fashion, pulling in 89 points.

Chu, a former hedge fund trader, tells TVNewser:

“I’d like to thank TVNewser and all the Doctors of Bracketology out there in the Bloomberg TV newsroom…as well as Bloomberg Sports Analytics…it was a team effort…and thanks to the UCONN Huskies for making this whole thing possible…I totally forgive you for your performance during the regular season and the Big East Tournament…Thank You…Thank You!”

Second place went to CNBC “Mad Money” EP Regina Gilgan, who netted 74 points, and also bested nine of her CNBC colleagues.

Rounding out the top five: “Early Show” EP David Friedman with 60 points, CNBC’s Joe Kernen with 59 points, and “Early Show” weather anchor Marysol Castro with 58 points.

2011 TVNewser Bracket Challenge Final Four Update

It is down to the final four teams in the NCAA Men’s Division I basketball tournament, and with it the final rankings in the TVNewser 2011 bracket challenge become a little clearer.

Considering that only two of more than 5.9 million brackets on ESPN.com had VCU, Butler, UConn and Kentucky in the Final Four, it is not surprising that none of our participants had them right either.

The bracket leader is Bloomberg TV’s Dominic Chu (74 points), who correctly picked UConn and Kentucky to make the Final Four. Chu is followed by “Early Show” executive producer David Friedman at #2 with 60 points, and CNBC’s Joe Kernen at #3 with 59 points. There is a two-way tie for fourth, with CBS’ Marysol Castro and CNBC’s Regina Gilgan both with 58 points.

It does not look like Chu can be caught, but there are still a few more games left to play. The rankings are after the jump.

TVNewser Bracket Challenge 2011: It’s On

The time has come. The very first March Madness games are underway, and with them, comes the 2011 TVNewser bracket challenge.

Last year we had executive producers from across the TV news landscape make their picks, with “BBC World News America” EP Rome Hartman emerging victorious.

Hartman is back this year to defend his crown, but we opened the field up to all senior executives, executive producers and talent.

One thing we learned: “The Early Show” crew sticks together, and CNBCers love their college basketball.

TVNewser Bracket Challenge 2010: EP Edition

It’s time for some College Basketball March Madness and while you’ve been asking your colleagues (or are being asked by your colleagues) to join a bracket pool, we’ve been asking your bosses (or your favorite show’s bosses) to join ours.
