N.S. Bienstock Acquired by United Talent Agency

BienstockN.S. Bienstock, one of the nation’s biggest and most well-known agencies for TV news talent, has been acquired by United Talent Agency (UTA). Bienstock agents represent more than 600 TV news anchors, reporters and producers including Bill O’Reilly, Anderson Cooper, Robin Roberts, Megyn Kelly, Bob Scheiffer, Norah O’Donnell, David Muir, Glenn Beck, and Lara Logan.

N.S. Bienstock founders and co-presidents Richard Leibner and Carole Cooper will remain co-presidents of the company, managing day-to-day operations.

“Aligning with UTA and utilizing their global reach and resources while still retaining our personal touch is a significant step forward in the growth and evolution of N.S. Bienstock,” says Leibner.

UTA represents talent from the worlds of movies, television, digital media, video games, books, music and theatre. UTA will now be the largest agency in the TV news space.

Nate Bienstock started N.S. Bienstock in the 1940s as a life insurance business. His client list included a number of journalists, including Walter Cronkite and Eric Sevareid. Richard Leibner’s father Sol, bought into (and later bought) the business and, as TV news began to take off, Richard Liebner began negotiating contracts for clients. Liebner married Carole Cooper in 1964. She joined the firm and became an agent in 1976.

David Gregory the Buzz at Business Emmys

Gregory_12.3.gifThe event may have been to honor the best in business reporting, but the buzz at the top of the Rock this afternoon was who would be taking over the nation’s #1 public affairs show — David Gregory‘s soon-to-be announced gig as moderator of Meet the Press.

Insiders tell TVNewser Richard Leibner, who was at the event, was telling people he is “David Gregory’s agent of record” but that he was not involved in the negotiations. Which means Gregory most likely worked with an attorney to negotiate the deal. TVNewser has learned Tom Brokaw will make the announcement this Sunday after his interview with Pres.-elect Barack Obama.

On hand at today’s luncheon: Morley Safer, Dan Rather, Christiane Amanpour, Mike Schneider and Anthony Mason.

As for the Emmys, held at the Rainbow Room at 30 Rock, ABC, CBS, Bloomberg and PBS all took home two awards each. CNBC and Minyanville.com took home one each. The press release is after the jump…

David Gregory to Moderate Meet the Press…Maybe

Huffington Post’s Danny Shea reports NBC’s White House correspondent David Gregory will be named moderator of Meet the Press.

But an NBC News spokesperson responds, not to HuffPo, but to Politico‘s Michael Calderone with this: “I don’t know where they are getting this. We have nothing to announce.”

Meanwhile, Gregory’s agent Richard Leibner would neither confirm nor deny the report when the NY Observer’s Felix Gillette asked.

So, maybe David Gregory will be the new moderator of Meet the Press, or maybe he won’t be, or maybe he’ll be part of a panel, or maybe not. Stay tuned.
