Robin Meade’s ‘Count on Me’ Set for Release

Remember that album Robin Meade was just starting to work on when we talked with her last year?

Well, “Count on Me” drops June 11 and CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker and HLN executive in charge Scot Safon are throwing her a release party in New York next month. This is the second album for Meade, who anchors HLN’s “Morning Express.” Her first, 2011′s “Brand New Day” features a mix of original music and covers, including Don Henley‘s ode to TV news “Dirty Laundry.”

Meade sang a few bars for us during a Media Beat interview last April. Watch:

HLN’s Robin Meade, FNC’s Bret Baier Duke it Out For Pediatric Cancer

Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier and HLN anchor Robin Meade put aside their competing loyalties this weekend to pose for a few pictures at the Patrick Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament for St. Jude Kids in Palm Desert, Calif.

TVNewser hears Baier played in the golf tournament and Meade, who calls music her “second platform,” performed on stage with musical acts including Alice Cooper and REM’s Mike Mills. The event raised money for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other deadly diseases.

Papal Aides, Media, Everyone But God Caught Off Guard By Pope Benedict XVI Resignation

The news of Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation caught even his closest aides off guard leaving the world media scrambling to confirm the news. The Pope announced in a meeting of Vatican Cardinals today, “After having repeatedly examining my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.” The pope will resign Feb. 28.

CNN went with the news at 6am as “Early Start” went on the air. John Berman and Zoraida Sambolin reported the news confirming with CNN sources in Vatican City. HLN’s Robin Meade reported the news at 6:01 as did “Fox & Friends,” citing “a wire service.”

MSNBC was hesitant to report the news at first but then at 6:04 Joe Scarborough reported the Reuters flash: “We weren’t sure whether we were going to go with [this] or not because Reuters has gotten some information wrong before on the pope. Mika, why don’t you confirm.”

“Pope Benedict is going to be stepping down as head of the Catholic church,” said Brzezinski.

The broadcast networks all produced special reports in the 6am hour. NBC’s Claudio Lavagna and CBS’s Allen Pizzey reported from their networks’ Rome bureaus by the 7am start of the morning shows. “Good Morning America” did not have a correspondent in Italy, but spoke to an American priest in Rome.

A Tough Road Ahead For Jeff Zucker, Chris Cuomo And CNN In The Morning

The day he was announced as CNN’s new worldwide president, Jeff Zucker and his new boss Turner Broadcasting chairman Phil Kent held a conference call with reporters.

Kent, never one to mince words, said that one of the reasons Time Warner hired Zucker was his experience in morning news.

“It is not lost on any of us that occasionally HLN’s morning show beats CNN’s morning show,” Kent said. “One of the hundred other reasons I wanted [Zucker] was because of his experience in the morning.”

Now, barely a week into his new job, Zucker is planning to shake up the mornings, replacing “Starting Point” with a new program anchored by Chris Cuomo, and possibly another anchor such as Erin Burnett. It is far too soon to speculate about what the new program will look like, but it is worth noting that Cuomo and Burnett have extensive experience in the mornings, although not exactly on the most-watched programs.

Zucker, of course, changed the morning show game when he rose to the top of “Today” in 1992, at the age of 26.

Jeff Zucker Giving Input on CNN’s Inauguration Coverage

Jeff Zucker officially joins CNN on Monday, but he’s already making his mark. Insiders tell us the new CNN Worldwide president and uber producer has been giving input on CNN’s Inauguration Day plans. It was Zucker’s idea to incorporate HLN talent into CNN’s coverage. So expect to see HLN anchors Robin Meade and Christi Paul on CNN Monday.

Zucker will be in Washington, DC for his first day, we’re told. (No pressure at all, control room.)

Zucker has already held town hall meetings with staffers in Atlanta, New York and Washington, DC and has plans to visit the Los Angles bureau soon. He’ll be based in New York.

Robin Meade Oversleeps, Make-up Artists Go Into Overdrive

For the first time in 20 years of anchoring, HLN’s Robin Meade overslept this morning and then gave new meaning to the show’s title, “Morning Express” as the make-up artists had to work like a Nascar pit crew to get Meade made up before the 6am show went live.

General Petraeus Talks About Affair To HLN

Former CIA Director General David Petraeus has not given any interviews since resigning last week, but that isn’t to say he hasn’t been talking. Petraeus apparently has had multiple conversations with HLN anchor Kyra Phillips since resigning.

Phillips appeared on “Morning Express” this morning and told Robin Meade about those conversations. (Phillips’ HLN show debuts in the new year). Petraeus told Phillips that he never divulged classified information to anyone, and that his resignation had nothing to do with the incident in Benghazi.

The Top Cable News Programs In Q3 2012 Were…

Q3 2012 was a very strong one for MSNBC, which managed to have two shows in the top 10 in the demo for the quarter. Fox News Channel led the way as usual, scoring the top 10 programs in total viewers, and the top six in the demo.

As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program on Fox News and cable news overall. The program averaged 2.83 million total viewers and 551,000 demo viewers for the quarter.

On MSNBC, “The Rachel Maddow Show” was number one in both total and demo viewers, averaging 1.18 million and 356,000 viewers, respectively. “Maddow” placed seventh overall in the demo, and 11th in total viewers.

CNN’s top show in total viewers for the quarter was “Piers Morgan Tonight,” which averaged 548,000 viewers. “AC360″ led the network in the demo with 167,000. “PMT” was 24th overall in total viewers, while “AC360″ was 25th overall in the demo.

HLN’s top program in total viewers was “Nancy Grace,” which averaged 301,000. In the demo, “Morning Express” was tops with 125,000.

CNBC’s top program in total viewers was “Squawk On The Street,” which averaged 248,000 viewers, while “American greed” led the way in the demo with 114,000. Fox Business Network’s number one show was “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” which averaged 104,000 viewers for the quarter. It was also number one in the demo, averaging 31,000. Note: the Dobbs numbers include a repeat airing, while Kudlow’s does not. In a head to head matchup, not counting the repeat, Dobbs beat Kudlow, as we noted on Monday.

NBC News catches a lot of flack for hiring the children of prominent politicians (i.e. Meghan McCain, Chelsea Clinton), but there is a method to the madness. Today is former President George H.W. Bush‘s 88th birthday, and NBC’s “Today” had the first interview… conducted by his granddaughter, “Today” contributing correspondent Jenna Bush Hager.

Bush says he hopes to go skydiving for his 9oth birthday. No word on whether Robin Meade will be joining him this time.

Bush will be giving other interviews today, including to “ABC World News” anchor Diane Sawyer.

HLN’s Clark Howard Returns to Joplin One Year Later

HLN Adapting ‘Morning Express’ For The Evening, Launching ‘Evening Express’

HLN is launching a new late afternoon/early evening program called “Evening Express.” As the name suggests, the format is based on the channel’s successful morning program, “Morning Express with Robin Meade.”

The show will originate from Atlanta and will air from 5-7 PM, beginning Monday, June 4. Ryan Smith will host the show, joined by Clark Howard and Ishe Sesay, who joins HLN from sister network CNN. Angie Massie will serve as EP.

From 5-6 PM HLN currently airs “HLN Special Report,” and “Prime News” from 6-7 PM. Those shows will no longer air, but HLN says there won’t be any staff reductions, as staff will either work on “Evening Express,” or move to another show. Host Vinnie Politan will continue to anchor during In Session, and we hear he will be getting a new daytime show soon as well.

For HLN’s Robin Meade, singing in front of thousands of people comes much more naturally than delivering the news every morning on her show, “Morning Express.”

Meade, who grew up singing in her church, is now busy at work on a follow-up to her debut album “Brand New Day.” The veteran morning anchor recently sat down for a “Media Beat” interview and discussed how performing has prepared her for a career in news. Since singing is so important to who Meade is, we thought we’d post a quick video of her belting out some tunes…
