Before talk turned to politics, however, Sawyer and Ramos took a few minutes to discuss the upcoming launch of ABC and Univision’s joint venture, an English-language cable channel targeting a Hispanic audience.

“Everybody at ABC News is beyond excited. In fact, a producer said last night, ‘I was watching Jorge, and I don’t speak Spanish yet, but he was so fascinating I watched the ten-minute interview,’” Sawyer said, drawing laughter from the crowd of about 100. “It’s going to be a great journey of discovery as we all examine what’s happening.”

The pair talked about the goal of tapping into a rapidly-growing demographic of English-speaking people of Hispanic descent.

“We’re doing great in Spanish, but then we realize about one in four Latinos feel much more comfortable in English than in Spanish,” Ramos said. “Either we do it, or somebody else is going to do it. That’s the future of Latinos.”

It’s a demographic that Ramos, the father of two, is very familiar with personally.

“We’re doing all this simply so my kids can watch me,” Ramos joked. “They don’t watch me. So we asked ABC to help us.”

CBS News president David Rhodes announced in an email to staffers that Caroline Horn, who currently coordinates political coverage on “CBS Evening News,” has been promoted to senior producer for politics. The CBS political unit will also depend on senior political producers for the major broadcasts, including Ward Sloane for “Evening News” and former Fox News political producer Mosheh Oinounou for “The Early Show.”

ABC News also announced a new hire: Ron Brownstein, editorial director for The National Journal, will join the network’s political team, according to an email from ABC News president Ben Sherwood. Brownstein will contribute political analysis across all ABC’s platforms. He will also contribute to CNN as a senior political analyst.

The National Journal also has a partnership with CBS News, which Rhodes mentions in his full memo to CBS staffers. Both memos are after the jump.

On Monday, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were among several people who attended an off-the-record briefing with Pres. Obama at the White House. Sources tell us other attendees at the two-and-a-half hour chat included Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Gwen Ifill of PBS and Gloria Borger of CNN. Perhaps not surprisingly, no one from Fox News was in the room.

This fact quickly turned into ammunition for the folks at FOX. Last night on “Special Report,” Bret Baier revealed the information pointing out that opinion hosts from one channel were being invited to a briefing with the Commander-in-Chief, all the while Fox was declared not a news organization.

And it continued on Fox & Friends this morning, as the troika talked about the back-and-forth ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper had with press secretary Robert Gibbs in the morning off-camera gaggle yesterday.

[However, co-anchor Gretchen Carlson didn't have her facts correct when she said, "in this reporter gaggle was Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann who are opinion people over at MSNBC." Maddow and Olbermann were in the off-the-record briefing on Monday not the on-the-record gaggle on Tuesday.]
