Royal Wedding Coverage, CNN Opinion Drive CNN Digital in April

Coverage of the Royal Wedding and a strong showing by CNN Opinion led CNN Digital to gains in April.

Flagship site CNN.com tallied 1.45 billion global page views and 100.2 million global video views for the month, with both figures higher than those from April 2010.

On Friday, April 29, the day of the Royal Wedding, CNN.com totaled 67 million global page views, up 31 percent compared with the average of the previous four Fridays, and 11 million of those page views were for coverage of the event, including the site’s Unveiled blog. CNN.com also served 10.3 million live and on-demand video views, up 236 percent compared with the prior-four-week average.

On the social media front, the cable news network’s @CNN Twitter account sent 10 Tweets about the Royal Wedding, accounting for a total of 1,900 retweets. And CNN’s Royal Wedding coverage drew more than 42,000 check-ins via entertainment-based social network GetGlue.

CNN Opinion posted the best month in its history, with 18.9 million global page views, 61 percent higher than April 2010.

NBC News VP Mark Lukasiewicz Touts The Royal Wedding by NBC News App

NBC News vice president of specials and digital media Mark Lukasiewicz touted the network’s The Royal Wedding by NBC News app, as well as Twitter account @RoyalWedding, in an internal email.

The app is available for the iPad, iPhone, and Android.

Lukasiewicz also mentioned a tie-in with entertainment-based social network GetGlue, as well as a special Facebook event. From his email:
