MSNBC’s afternoon panel show “The Cycle” hosted James “Bobo” Fay this afternoon. Fay is the star of the popular Animal Planet series “Finding Bigfoot,” which sees Fay and his associates attempting to track down the mythical beast. Spoiler: they haven’t found him yet. Skeptics are unlikely to be persuaded by the interview, though viewers learned that the show’s lone conservative, S.E. Cupp, is a big fan.

C-SPAN: Will simulcast “Politico Live” from 7 PM until the acceptance/concession speeches begin, when it shifts over to C-SPAN 2 until midnight. C-SPAN will also air all speeches, as well as updates from key state races.

Comedy Central: “The Daily Show” and “Colbert Report” will be live Tuesday night from 11PM-12AM, with special coverage called ”Election Night 2012: This Ends Now” and “Election 2012: A Nation Votes, Ohio Decides; The Re-Presidenting of America: Who Will Replace Obama? ‘012!”Andrew Sullivan will be a guest, and “Daily Show” correspondents will report “from the show’s on-set Obama and Romney headquarters and election center.”

In its first two weeks (which included the July 4 holiday last week) “The Cycle” is averaging 383,000 Total Viewers and 77,000 A25-54 viewers.

Compared to the previous month, “The Cycle” is down -16% in the demo and down -5% in Total Viewers.

But MSNBC is fully aware that it takes any new show time to build an audience. A year ago today, FNC’s “The Five” — which “The Cycle” resembles — debuted. In its first two weeks the show averaged 1.25 million total viewers and 261K in the demo. So far for July “The Five” is averaging 1.83 million Total Viewers and 405,000 A25-54 viewers.

If “The Cycle” sounds an awful lot like Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” that’s because it is a lot like “The Five,” except there will be four hosts instead of five. As it happens, when Ratigan was introducing the team, he referred to them as “The Four,” twice, and did not mention that the show was actually called “The Cycle.”

Of course, “The Five” is a knockoff of “The View,” which is in turn a knockoff of the many ensemble shows that came before it. What “The Five” did do though was prove than an ensemble show could work with a political focus on cable news, though one could also argue that the old “Crossfire” paved the way too.

The Huffington Post talked to EP Steve Friedman about the show.

“Cable television is programs about the news,” he said. “it’s no longer the news. Nobody turns on to find out what happens, because they already know from you guys. What people are interested in is listening and watching people give their take.”

The news was first reported by Politico’s Dylan Byers, who also notes some of the names being floated to fill-in during that hour.

Steve Kornacki, Salon’s political writer, and S.E. Cupp, the conservative columnist, are among those who will co-host the new show, which will replace Martin Bashir’s program when it moves to the 4 p.m slot…At least two sources also named former congressional candidate-turned-commentator Krystal Ball and the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein as possible co-hosts.

The program will not be a typical news program, but will pursue its own agenda, as the announcement explains:

GBTV will be based at GBTV.com, which Mercury acquired in January.

Mercury also filed a trademark on a tagline for the channel: “The Truth Lives Here,” as well as a logo (pictured after the jump), based on the logo for his “InsiderExtreme” subscription service.

The trademark applications are limited exclusively to programming delivered via the internet, so it is not likely that GBTV will become an actual TV network anytime in the near future. Mercury also filed the GBTV trademark for ancillary products, like DVDs, podcasts, mobile applications and video games.

During an interview with Sirius NFL Radio, Favre said the media was paying him too much attention:

“First and foremost, today’s game, today’s society, it’s a media frenzy world and nothing goes untouched or un-talked about. I quietly — I thought quietly — this offseason tried to make my decision. I had surgery. Of course, once we got months before camp the media started camping out at the gate. I never asked them to come. I never asked them to talk about it.”

So, Rachel Nichols camping out on your front yard in Mississippi is overkill? You don’t say, Brett.

Favre also claims he wasn’t trying to drag out his decision to come back for his 20th season in order to generate more media coverage:

“If we had a crystal ball it would be a lot easier but that’s not the case. I can’t help what people say about me, good or bad. The thing for me is I really don’t pay attention to it. I understand people are talking and forming opinions and speculating and things like that but I think the guys on this team would speak for me and friends and family that know the situation would say the same thing. I can’t expect anyone to understand it, wouldn’t do me any good to even try to explain it to people. So I just try to make the right decision and do the best with that decision.”

While the media might be guilty of over kill when it comes to all things Favre, the 40-year-old gunslinger has to share the blame.

Retire. Unretire. Retire. Unretire. Retire. Private jet with three teammates. Unretire.

Do you see a pattern here?

I’ll have a room ready at the Holiday Inn in Hattiesburg for next July, because we all know Favre and the media will go through the same song-and-dance routine next summer.

On CNN’s Reliable Sources, Eric Deggans of the St. Petersburg Times called it, “a perfect storm of problems for those guys,” and commentator S.E. Cupp took it further. “I don’t think that they wear different hats,” he said. “I think the hat that they wear is the hat of a fan: a fan of the Democratic Party and a fan of Obama. You know, they were practically groupies at the DNC.”
