President Obama is scheduled to comment on the disaster in Oklahoma at 10 AM and it is likely that all of the broadcast networks will break into regular programming to cover it.  ”CBS This Morning” went into the 9 AM hour to cover the fallout. We hear that “CTM” will stay live until 12 PM on the east coast covering the damage, and 10 AM pacific.

Update: “Our prayers are with the people of Oklahoma today,” Obama said. “Oklahoma needs to get everything that it needs right away.”

“If there is hope to hold onto, not just in Oklahoma but around the country, it is the knowledge that the good people there in Oklahoma are more prepared than most, and what they can be certain about is that Americans around the country will be right there with them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the news channels are sending their A-teams to Oklahoma to cover the fallout from the tornado.

As we noted yesterday, NBC has Brian Williams,  Lester Holt, Ann Curry, Harry Smith, Kate Snow, Anne Thompson and Dr. Nancy Snyderman in Oklahoma, as well as the Weather Channel team of Jim Cantore, Mike Bettes, and Mike Seidel.

ABC News has Sam Champion, Ginger Zee, David Muir and Alex Perez in Oklahoma. Byron Pitts, Mike Boettcher, and Cecilia Vega are also either in Moore or en route.

CBS has Norah O’Donnell anchoring from Moore, and Anna Werner on the ground, and Scott Pelley will anchor the “CBS Evening News” there this evening.

The Vito Russo award, named for one of GLAAD’s founders, honors an openly gay media professional who has “made a significant difference in promoting equality.”

Jezebel’s Jessica Coen takes issue with the stunt, noting that the bride, Melissa, clearly was thinking about a wedding, but that at the end of the day she had no say in it. The bridesmaids, the flowers, the officiant and the colors were all chosen by “GMA”. The only input Melissa had in the wedding was choosing between four dresses that were pre-selected based on pics to her Pinterest page.

Update: Her now-husband was the one who came up with the idea: “While a “wedding in a flash” was slightly risky, it was in keeping with the couple’s adventurous courtship, Bondy assured.”

• CNN’s Ivan Watson has been promoted to Senior International Correspondent. Watson, based at CNN Istanbul, joined the network four years ago and has since covered a number of major news events right up to this morning’s suicide bombing outside the U.S. Embassy.

• The 4th hour of the “Today” show began a new feature this morning called “Today’s Johnson’s” Baby of the Week” celebrating newborns. Parents can submit photos and words of wisdom to help new moms and dads navigate the early days of parenthood.

• GMA’s Robin Roberts returned home to the Gulf Coast for the first time since her bone marrow transplant in September. Sam Champion and Josh Elliott are along for the ride. The “GMA” anchor was greeted by students from her alma mater, SLU. Watch.

This year the Big Game is on CBS, but that isn’t stopping the other networks from trying to get a piece of the action.

CNN will have a Super Bowl pre-game show on Saturday at 4 PM. “Kickoff in New Orleans: A CNN-Bleacher Report Special,” will be co-hosted by Turner Sports anchor Ernie Johnson and the newly-hired Rachel Nichols. CNN says that it will add daily sports updates to CNN and HLN, and will use the Bleacher Report brand-name for all sports programming going forward. Bleacher Report was acquired by Turner Sports last year.

NBC’s “Today” is launching a segment this month called “Today’s Field Trips,” which will see Al Roker and Natalie Morales travel to different cities every Friday. Shocker: this Friday is the first edition, and they are going to Baltimore and San Francisco, the home of the two teams playing in the Super Bowl. They will be hanging out with NFL fans.

Roberts has been sidelined since her bone marrow transplant Sept. 20. She was well enough to attend Sam Champion‘s wedding Dec. 21 and was reunited with her dog KJ a week later.

The bone marrow transplant became necessary after a diagnosis of the blood disorder MDS which can occur in patients who’ve previously battled cancer. Roberts underwent breast cancer surgery in 2007.

In her note, after the jump, Roberts teased: “In the coming days on GMA we will give you details about my return. I’m so excited.”

• Following their wedding last week in New York City, ABC’s Sam Champion and Rubem Robierb are now having a second ceremony in Miami Beach. MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts will officiate the New Year’s Eve event. It was at Roberts’ wedding in September that Champion announced his nuptials.

• Veteran CBS News director Eric Shapiro will receive the DGA Lifetime Achievement award in February. Shapiro, who has been with CBS News since 1978, has been behind the look and design of most CBS News programs including “Sunday Morning,” “Face the Nation,” “48 Hours,” and “Evening News.”

• PageSix reports Brian Williams may be distancing himself from “Rock Center” and that other anchors may soon start filling in. But a source close to the show said, “Brian is and remains the anchor. His name stays in the title — [there are] no other anchors.” The show moves to its new Friday timeslot in February.

Sam Champion joins Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney, former “Entertainment Tonight” host Mary Hart and others for the Las Vegas pageant.

And at least one of the contestants has something in common with Champion. Miss Vermont, Chelsea Ingram, is a meteorologist at Fox44 in Burlington.

Just a few years ago, the pageant’s days seemed to be numbered. No broadcast network wanted it. So in 2006, the broadcast moved to CMT then to TLC, but returned to ABC in 2011 when it drew 2.5 million viewers. Earlier this year, the 2012 competition drew 2.8 million viewers — both airings were up against NFL Wild Card games. And that will be the case again this year.
