The Morning Ticker: Serena’s Slam, Claman’s Workout, Compton’s Clock

  • Serena Williams canceled on “Good Morning America,” the “Today” show and “Live with Kelly and Michael” Monday morning following her U.S. Open win on Sunday. The NY Post reports Williams was beat after celebrating with friend and finals opponent Caroline Wozniacki.

  • FBN’s Liz Claman hosts Start-up Nation today from Silicon Valley. And in between FBN live shots and interviewing various entrepreneurs, she hopes to get in a workout. “I usually stay at the Four Seasons in Palo Alto, and they’ve got a good gym. The one thing about carving out time to work out? You never regret it.”

  • ABC’s Jonathan Karl reminisces with Ann Compton on her ground-breaking, 41-year career as she prepares to retire from ABC News. “I can promise you that on the morning that I first stay home, my alarm clock is not going off at 5:15. And if it does, it’s going right out the window.”

Tim Tebow Fires Back At His Critics

Denver Broncos starting quarterback Tim Tebow fired back at his critics Thursday in the Denver Post:

“I’m trying to insulate myself from what people in the media are saying, but I’ve seen some of it, and it hurts because it’s coming from people who haven’t seen me practice, haven’t seen me play, haven’t seen what I can do,” said Tebow. “I did an interview the other day with someone on the NFL Network who said last year I’d never play a down in the NFL. He was wrong. Others who say I won’t make it are wrong. They don’t know what I’m capable of and what’s inside me. My family and my friends have been bothered by what’s gone on, and I tell them to pay no attention to it. I’m relying as always on my faith.”

The media is responsible for building up Tebow as this larger-than-life college football player and the backlash appears to be underway.

Time to put up or shut up, Tim.

Houston Pursuit

ChaseFNC_8.14.jpgWhile Serena Williams chases gold (spoiler alert….she loses, MSNBC is airing the match from earlier today), Headline News and Fox News Channel were on live pictures of another kind of chase (okay, that was bad, we admit it.)

The two networks stayed on live pictures of a police pursuit outside Houston for more than 20 minutes. HLN began coverage at 2:31pmET; FNC at 2:34pm. It all ended around 2:52 when the suspect (or as our pal Mike James would call him, bonehead) jumped out of the truck where police took him down in someone’s front yard.
