Army-Navy Football Game Focus of December Showtime Reality Show

The lead-up and playing of the annual Army-Navy football game will serve as the basis for a reality show/docudrama called A Game of Honor to be broadcast on Showtime on Dec. 21. Peter Radovich, a show co-producer, said the schools were initially hesitant about allowing cameras to follow their teams in Annapolis and West Point, respectively, throughout the summer, fall and all the way through the Dec. 10 game on CBS. But both service academies ultimately saw it as a possible recruiting tool.

“It was smart on their part, because they have nothing to hide. There are no warts there,” Radovich told USA Today.

Filming began in June, and included seeing U.S. Naval Academy freshman Maika Polamalu, cousin of Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu, getting his buzz cut.

“Without question, this could be an annual thing. … What’s good about this – compared to other annual reality shows out there – is there’s a lot more to this than sports,” Radovich says.

John Feinstein, the longtime Washington Post reporter who contributed color commentary to Navy games for 14 years, recently quit his position in protest of this CBS/Showtime project, explaining that he’d unsuccessfully petitioned CBS to do a documentary about the Army-Navy game in the past.

Video: Stephen A. Smith Hints There's Something Going On With LeBron James' Personal Life

Here we go again.

Stephen A. Smith hinted Thursday morning that he heard something is going on in LeBron James‘ personal life, which might explain his poor outing in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

Sound familiar? *Cough, Gloria James, cough*

Based on Smith’s recent track record (he broke the LeBron story last year), you have to believe him at this point. But why bring it up if you aren’t willing to dive into the topic?

[H/T SportsGrid via The Big Lead]

After Mendenhall 9-11 tweets, teammate Clark says 'social media is ruining the world'

After his teammate Rashard Mendenhall attracted a firestorm of criticism for going on Twitter and saying some questionable things about 9-11 and Osama bin Laden, Steelers safety Ryan Clark went on the radio and said “social media is ruining the world.”

First, here are Mendenhall’s comments about 9-11: “We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

Looks like someone has seen “Loose Change” and been rather impressed with the “findings.”

Then here are his comments about bin Laden’s death and the widespread joy that greeted the news: “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side.”

Needless to say, a lot of people took exception to these opinions. Clark, for his part, put some of the blame on Twitter, which gives everyone the ability to quickly (and sometimes regrettably) share their knee-jerk reactions.

“Facebook and Twitter are probably going to be responsible for more divorces than infidelity coming up here soon,” Clark said. “(Mendenhall) didn’t claim that those opinions were shared by anyone else but himself. That was what he chose to put out there. I knew he was going to catch a lot of flak for it, I knew there was going to be a lot of backlash toward those comments, but he’s entitled to put whatever he wants to put on his Twitter page. The thing you have to know these days, though, if you do put those type of things out there, people are going to comment on them. It’s going to make news. It’s going to be a big deal when you do something that controversial. A long as he can stand by his statements then he’s free to do whatever he wants.”

Well, Mendenhall chose to erase the tweet about a plane being able to take down a skyscraper, but his comment about bin Laden’s death remains on Twitter.

You Can Blame Dave For The Knicks Losing Streak

We all know about the Madden curse.

But the Letterman curse?

The New York Knicks haven’t won since Ama’re Stoudemire‘s appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman last week, losing four straight.

This isn’t the first time the Knicks have struggled after appearing on the late night talk show. Isiah Thomas, Larry Brown and Mike D’Antoni all sat down with David Letterman and went on to losing seasons.

To be fair, how much is Letterman’s doing and how much of that is the Knicks being sorry?

I’m leaning towards the latter. continued…
