Sharon Hoffman Upped to EP of ‘CBS Evening News’ Weekend

SharonHoffmanSharon Hoffman has been named Executive Producer for weekend news at CBS News. Hoffman will oversee the Saturday and Sunday editions of the “CBS Evening News.”

Most recently, Hoffman was a senior producer for “CBS This Morning,” where she supervised the 7AM hour and all dayside news coverage for the broadcast. Before joining CBS News in 2011, Hoffman was a senior producer at ABC’s “Good Morning America” and executive producer of “The Bryant Park Project,” a daily, two-hour morning news program hosted by Alison Stewart on NPR.

Hoffman spent most of her television news career at NBC News. She was a senior producer for NBC News Productions, the senior domestic producer for “NBC Nightly News,” and she spent eight years as a producer for “Dateline NBC,” where she won two Emmy Awards.

CBS News Names Senior Staff for ‘CBS This Morning’

CBS News has named the senior broadcast producer, as well as seven senior producers and a director of production, for its upcoming morning program “CBS This Morning.” Tom Mazzarelli has been named senior broadcast producer foe the program. Mazzarelli had been a senior producer for “The Early Show.” Rick Jefferson has been named director of production for the program. Jefferson had been a manager of technical operations at MSNBC.

In addition to Mazzarelli, some of the “Early Show” and CBS holdovers include: Ryan Kadro, Bob Meyer, Kevin Rochford, Mosheh Oinounou and Sharon Hoffman.

The new additions include Eva Nordstrom, who joins CBS from Bloomberg TV and Rachel Weintraub Riegel, who was co-executive producer of “The Gayle King Show” on OWN. King is now a co-anchor of “CBS This Morning.”

CBS News ‘Early Show’ Hires

CBS News continues to staff up on the transformational “Early Show.”

TVNewser has learned the network has hired broadcast veteran Sharon Hoffman as a senior producer on the show. Hoffman has had stints at “Good Morning America,” WNET and NPR. The network has also hired John Peck as supervising producer. Peck joins from KIRO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Seattle where he was the morning show executive producer. CBS News programming VP Chris Licht had hired Peck at KNTV in San Jose/San Francisco when he was EP at the NBC O&O in the mid 2000′s. Also, Ryan Kadro has been promoted from supervising producer to senior producer.

TV News Producers, Execs and Personalities Compete in NYC Triathlon

Cuomo071910.jpg Yesterday was the 2010 Nautica New York City Triathlon, and a flurry of TV news staffers, executives and personalities participated. As we reported over the weekend, Fox Business Network’s Liz Claman was among those biking, swimming and running to the finish line.

Other boldface names included CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta and ABC News’ Chris Cuomo, who is pictured here with the medal given to those that complete the race. Cuomo posted the photo to his Facebook page.

CNN had a number of other staffers participate in the race, according to a blog post recapping the day’s festivities: executive producer Roni Selig joined Gupta and producers Anthony Fox, John Bonifield, Caitlin Hagan, Danielle Dellorto, Charlie Moore and Jeff Kepnes (who just happens to be Liz Claman’s husband) in the race.

In addition to Cuomo, senior producer Sharon Hoffman crossed the finish line for team ABC News.

WNYW, the local Fox affiliate, was a media sponsor of the triathlon, and had a number of staffers and executives participating, including former Fox News exec Jack Abernathy, who currently oversees the Fox Television Stations group.

As for Claman, she sent this tweet out shortly after finishing the race: “Gang,I’m back & I did it-Tough weather conditions HOT but I didn’t try 2 push it. Got kicked a few times in the river but the bike/run good!”

The Hudson river does get pretty crowded this time of year.
