• Inside Cable News interviews CNN’s senior social digital producer (and former TVNewser editor) Steve Krakauer about the net’s social strategy: “When I started as the digital producer of Piers Morgan Tonight, it was very important to get Piers personally involved and invested in the social media strategy. There was only so much I could do from a show account… To do it right, we needed to harness the power of the celebrity status of Piers, and make sure his personality translated to Twitter.”

• The Baltimore Sun‘s David Zurawik gives his thoughts on the Chris Hayes/“heroes” flap: “No, this is psuedo-intellectual vanity and self-absorbed, TV media talk at its worst . I have a Ph.D. in American Studies, and after spending 10 years in seminars filled with too much of this kind of talk, I can accurately say that people who talk like Hayes did in his remarks are most often self-important b.s artists.”

• Margaret Hoover, who we noted is now at CNN after many years at Fox News, takes to Facebook to explain to her fans directly why the move was made: “Executives at CNN have been looking for fresh faces and new talent with conservative perspectives, and in the end, offered me an opportunity that was too good to pass up. Indeed, competition, that sturdy pillar of capitalism, is alive and well in the cable news industry.”

• TVNewser hears that FBN’s Melissa Francis–who is getting her own 5PM FBN show later this year–will be making her Fox News guest-hosting debut next week. Francis will be filling in for Gretchen Carlson on “Fox & Friends” Monday and Tuesday.

• Our sister blog FishbowlDC scoops that CNN has poached Fox News Capitol Hill producer Trish Turner to join the staff at “AC360.” She will be leaving DC and heading to New York.

• The Wrap’s Lucas Shaw writes about CNN’s social media domination, and argues that maybe… just maybe, there could be a correlation between social media reach and ratings, at least during big events. “I don’t think anyone can make case that there’s this causation where what happens on social media cause big ratings,” Steve Krakauer, senior digital producer for CNN, told TheWrap. “But on some of big events there’s a correlation.”

Krakauer has been named Senior Digital Producer for CNN/U.S., a new position. Krakauer has been the Digital Producer for “Piers Morgan Tonight” since the show launched. In an email to staff, CNN SVP Bart Feder, to whom Krakauer will report, writes Steve “has done a superb job in maximizing digital and social media opportunities to drive audience and engagement for the show.”

He’ll now lead social media activity across all shows and dayparts and will also manage the @CNN Twitter account.

Krakauer was TVNewser’s associate editor from late 2007 to Spring of 2009 and Mediaite’s Senior Editor in 2009-2010 before joining CNN last November.

Krakauer, who once wrote for these pages and was one of the founding editors of Dan Abrams‘ Mediaite, starts at CNN one week from today.

In a 4-part Tweet, Krakauer thanked Abrams and the Mediaite team, writing that he is “thrilled to start working for Piers, @JonathanWald and CNN.”

As we mentioned in a post over the weekend, Wald, who was named EP of Morgan’s show two weeks ago, has been busy building his team.

Meanwhile, Abrams has already hired Krakauer’s replacement. He’s local TV news reporter Mark Joyella.

And these job moves further prove the theory that there are about two degrees of separation in TV news: not only did I work with Krakauer here at mediabistro, but I was Joyella’s producer when we both worked at WFTS-TV in Tampa/St. Pete. Oh, and Abrams was my boss at MSNBC for a while.

The tweet, praising a leader of an organization best known in the U.S. for supporting terrorism, drew criticism from many news outlets, as well as the Simon Weisenthal Center, a human rights organization that operates the “Museum of Tolerance” in Los Angeles, CA.

Now Nasr has weighed in on the matter. In a blog post on CNN.com she expands on her tweet:

It was an error of judgment for me to write such a simplistic comment and I’m sorry because it conveyed that I supported Fadlallah’s life’s work. That’s not the case at all.

Here’s what I should have conveyed more fully:

I used the words “respect” and “sad” because to me as a Middle Eastern woman, Fadlallah took a contrarian and pioneering stand among Shia clerics on woman’s rights. He called for the abolition of the tribal system of “honor killing.” He called the practice primitive and non-productive. He warned Muslim men that abuse of women was against Islam.

CNN released a statement pointing readers to Nasr’s blog post, and reiterating that it was an “error in judgment” on her part. Still, the network added that “This is a serious matter and will be dealt with accordingly.”

Update: A CNN spokesperson says that Nasr will be leaving the network. Steve Krakauer at Mediaite has the internal memo.

The appearance on “Morning Joe” will be the first time since April 20 that Deutsch has appeared on MSNBC. The former ad exec has not been completely off of the NBC platforms however, he made an appearance on “Today” two weeks ago (pictured).

According to multiple sources, Charles Schwab, a regular sponsor of the 5pmET Fast Money program (as well as others) pulled its sponsorship from the program after a preview segment made it seem like Schwab was associated with the sex doc. Melissa Lee, anchor of Fast Money, also hosts the “Porn” special.

One source tells Mediaite that Schwab did not pull its sponsorships from CNBC as a whole, just chose to move its sponsored segments to other programs.

His take on Meet the Press’ future: “It really is — and all the Sunday morning shows are — really the last frontier in terms of a format that is watched by millions, in which people can actually have a conversation. I just hope it stays in that realm.”

Youth reporting: “A lot of stories stereotype young people as being apathetic, or smoking pot, watching Entourage, playing XBOX all day. Just not caring…Kids are involved in all different facets of this democracy. Whether it be through community service, whether it be through political participation, and the one thing I would like to see is that it’s normal to see a young person contributing.”

Gossip sites: “If you spend your time reading sites like Gawker, and Jossip, and letting them get to you, you’re not going to go very far in this business.”
