Dorner also wrote a rambling manifesto attempting to justify his crimes, and cites a number of TV news personalities and other entertainers in it.

Dorner is accused of killing one police officer and shooting three others. He is also believed to be behind the murder of the daughter of another police officer.

Dorner’s manifesto starts somewhat cohesive but rambles off when he starts sending notes to politicians, TV news personalities and entertainers. He praises New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former President George H.W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, Charlie Sheen, Larry David and Ellen Degeneres, among others.

Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, (KCBS anchor) Pat Harvey, Brian Williams, Soledad Obrien (sic), Wolf Blitzer, Meredith Viera (sic), Tavis Smiley, and Anderson Cooper, keep up the great work and follow Cronkite’s lead. I hold many of you in the same regard as Tom Brokaw and the late Peter Jennings. Cooper, stop nagging and berating your guest, they’re your (guest). Mr. Scarborough, we met at McGuire’s pub in P-cola in 2002 when I was stationed there. It was an honor conversing with you about politics, family, and life.

It started it off nicely enough. West to O’Reilly: “My dear brother Bill.” Then it started getting tense: O’Reilly to West: “I am not a liar!” Then it went off the rails about law-abiding or law-breaking bankers:

Smiley & West: “Ohhhhh. Brother Bill, how do you know?”

Last night, we learned that King has a new show in the works, and it takes place in the rafters of Conan O’Brien‘s program on CNN sister network TBS.

“All my life and all my career, I have dreamed of doing a show from these creepy rafters.”

It will be the first TV interview King has conducted since leaving his nightly perch at CNN, according to PBS, and it will be first time that Smiley has been interviewed on his own show. Smiley has filled in for King on occasion at CNN.

“Larry King was an inspiration for me when I started my own late-night talk show eight years ago,” said Smiley in a statement.  “One of the highlights of my broadcast career was the opportunity to periodically guest host for Larry King on CNN. It is an honor to now have him interview me on my program. It will be two great nights of conversation as we reflect on our combined 70+ years of broadcasting experience.”

There were a number of questions about the two programs, covering everything from the perceived ideology of the hosts David Gregory and Christiane Amanpour, to the makeup of guests on the programs. Other questions asked about the pace of the two shows, and the humor of Amanpour and Gregory. Apparently CBS’ “Face the Nation” and Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” did not make the cut, as they did not get singled out for questions.

With regard to “Meet the Press,” the “roundtable” portion of the program seems to be of particular interest to the network.

The survey asks whether respondents prefer the roundtable portion of the show or the newsmaker interview portion, and then asks about the composition of guests on the roundtable.

It also lists 18 people who are either regulars on the roundtable, or semi-regulars, and asks respondents to rate them on their appearances. Among the names:

In addition to participating in the Fortune, TIME and CNN Global Forum in South Africa (the 11th iteration), speakers including Katie Couric, Wolf Blitzer and former Pres. Bill Clinton caught some of the action at yesterday’s USA / Ghana match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Other scheduled speakers included Suze Orman and Tavis Smiley, but neither could make it. During halftime of the game, Blitzer Tweeted this picture of Couric, himself and a famous musician.

Another perk: really cool matching red jackets. Orman would be proud.

New York’s THIRTEEN has posted messages from a number of big names as a tribute to Moyers in his final week. Among the well-wishers are Stephen Colbert, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Tavis Smiley, Andrew Ross Sorkin, Jon Meacham, Alison Stewart, and PBS President Paula Kerger.

It’s hard to kill the press, but it is not hard to chill it, and this appears to be the White House’s goal in the case of Fox. “The best analogy is probably baseball,” Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said-meaning that throwing a few inside fastballs, a little chin music, gets hitters to back off the plate. Maybe, but he should also remember that deliberately throwing at a batter is grounds for ejection. The state may, and should, rebut opinions that it finds obnoxious, but it should not single out speakers for the purpose of intimidating them. At the end of the day, you do not want your opponents to be able to say that they could not be heard. It may be exasperating, but that is what the First Amendment is all about.

And Politico’s Mike Allen writes, Fox News isn’t the only target on the White House’s dartboard. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the focus of “a campaign by the White House and its allies to undermine [the] $200-million-a-year association.”

The fight with Fox News has been more pointed and sustained – and is much less likely to abate anytime soon, while the spat with the Chamber is more delicate for the White House.

Limbaugh’s profile for the issue is written by fellow radio host, and Fox News’ newest star, Glenn Beck.
