MSNBC placed 28th in primetime and 29th in total day, averaging 614,000 viewers and 371,000 viewers, respectively. CNN placed 33rd in primetime and 27th in total day, delivering 504,000 primetime viewers and 400,000 total day viewers.

Fox News was the top cable news network for the week of March 17, averaging 1,732,000 viewers in primetime and 1,094,000 viewers in total day. Fox News placed fifth in primetime and fourth in total day among all ad-supported cable networks for the week.

CNN placed 22nd in primetime and 12th in total day for the week. The network averaged 806,000 primetime viewers and 643,000 total day viewers. MSNBC placed 30th in primetime and 32nd in total day, averaging 617,000 viewers and 362,000 viewers, respectively.

Compared to last week, when cable news coverage of MH370 was at its peak, Fox News and MSNBC were down in the overall rankings: FNC dropped from first to fifth in primetime and third to fourth in total day, while MSNBC dropped from 27th to 30th in primetime and 28th to 32nd in total day. CNN stayed the same in primetime and gained five spots in total day compared to last week.

Cable Network Ranker: Fox News #1 in Primetime For Week of March 10

Boosted by a busy news week that included continued tensions in Ukraine and the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, Fox News was the top ad-supported cable network in primetime — beating out USA, the History Channel, AMC and TBS — for the week of March 10, averaging 2,049,000 viewers. The last time FNC finished first in primetime¬† was during the week of the State of the Union.

Fox News also turned in a strong total day performance, placing third overall with 1,181,000 viewers.

The news cycle is also boosting CNN, which jumped 12 spots in primetime and 13 spots in total day compared to last week. CNN placed 22nd in primetime, with 800,000 viewers, and 17th in total day, with 583,000 viewers. MSNBC was the third most-watched cable news network last week, placing 27th in primetime with 666,000 viewers and 28th in total day with 388,000 viewers.
