The Top Cable News Shows in February Were…

Fox News had the top 13 programs in total viewers and the top five programs in the key A25-54 demographic in January 2014. As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program in cable news in both total and demo viewers, averaging 2,937,000 total viewers and 450,000 demo viewers. “The Kelly File” was second in total viewers, with 2,337,000, followed by Bret Baier‘s “Special Report” with 2,114,000. “The Five” was second in the demo, with 358,000.

MSNBC’s highest-rated show was “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which placed 14th overall in total viewers and sixth overall in the demo. Maddow’s program averaged 996,000 total viewers and 287,000 demo viewers.

Anderson Cooper 360″ was the top CNN program in total viewers and the demo, placing 23rd and 26th, respectively. The show averaged 421,000 total viewers and 127,000 A25-54 viewers for the month.

Nancy Grace” led HLN in both total viewers and the demo. Grace’s program averaged 410,000 total viewers and 135,000 demo viewers, placing 25th overall in both ratings measurements.

As for the business networks: “Shark Tank” was CNBC’s highest-rated program, placing 22nd in total viewers and 10th in the demo. “Shark Tank” averaged 474,000 total viewers and 251,000 A25-54 viewers.  The top-rated show on Fox Business was “Varney & Company,” which delivered 121,000 total viewers and 27,000 A25-54 viewers for the month.

The Top Cable News Shows in January Were…

Fox News had the top 14 programs in total viewers and the top four programs in the key A25-54 demographic in January 2014. As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program in cable news in both total and demo viewers, averaging 2,720,000 total viewers and 409,000 demo viewers. “The Five” came in second in both ratings measurements, averaging 2,223,000 and 383,000 viewers, respectively. “The Kelly File,” “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” round out the top five in total viewers for the month.

MSNBC’s highest-rated show was “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which had an extremely strong month and cracked the top five in the A25-54 demographic. Maddow’s program averaged 1,040,000 total viewers and 305,000 demo viewers, placing 15th and fifth, respectively.

CNBC broke into the top ten among A25-54 viewers with “Shark Tank,” which led the network in both total viewers and the demo for the month. Reruns of the ABC program averaged 541,000 total viewers and 276,000 A25-54 viewers, placing 21st overall among total viewers and sixth overall in the demo.

Anderson Cooper 360″ was the top CNN program in total viewers and the demo, placing 24th and 27th, respectively. The show averaged 484,000 total viewers and 137,000 A25-54 viewers for the year.

“Forensic Files” led HLN in total viewers and the demo, placing 27th and 23rd, respectively. The show averaged 414,000 total viewers and 173,000 demo viewers.

The top-rated show on FBN was the network’s coverage of the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction, which drew 206,000 total viewers and 58,000 A25-54 viewers.

Fox News Shows to Originate From Times Square Before Super Bowl XLVIII

superbowl 2014As Fox gears up for Super Bowl XLVIII next month, Fox News Channel will be contributing to the buildup for the game with special coverage on several of its shows.

The channel will have several of its programs originate from Fox Sports’ Times Square studios in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. On Thursday January 30, “Shepard Smith Reporting” and “The O’Reilly Factor” will be live from Times Square. “The Five” and “The Kelly File” will originate from the same location on Friday, January 31.

“Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade will be reporting from Super Bowl Boulevard, which will be a 14-block stretch running through Times Square, in the week leading up to the game. He will also report from MetLife Stadium on Saturday, February 1 and on game day, Sunday, February 2.

Fox News had the top 14 programs in total viewers and the top nine programs in the key A25-54 demographic in 2013. As usual, “The O’Reilly Factor” was the number one program in cable news in both total and demo viewers, averaging 2,771,000 total viewers and 438,000 demo viewers. Megyn Kelly‘s “The Kelly File” was second in both total viewers and demo viewers, averaging 2,293,000 and 381,000, respectively. “The Five,” “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “Hannity” rounded out the top five programs.

“The Rachel Maddow Show” leads MSNBC in both total viewers and the demo. Maddow’s program averaged 860,000 total viewers, placing 15th overall, and 239,000 A25-54 viewers, placing tenth overall.

Anderson Cooper 360″ was the top CNN program in total viewers and the demo, placing 19th and 15th, respectively. The show averaged 647,000 total viewers and 201,000 A25-54 viewers for the year.

Nancy Grace” led HLN in total viewers and the demo, placing 29th and 23th, respectively. The show averaged 493,000 total viewers and 168,000 demo viewers.

“Squawk on the Street” was CNBC’s top-rated program in total viewers, and “American Greed” led the network in the demo. On FBN, “Varney & Company” led the network in total viewers and “Stossel” was tops in the A25-54 demo.

Nov. 2013 Ratings: Fox News Primetime #2 Among All Cable Networks

Fox News finished its 143rd consecutive month as the number one cable news network in November, beating MSNBC and CNN combined in both total day and primetime. FNC was second in all of cable news in primetime this month, finishing behind only ESPN. But like its competitors, Fox News saw double-digit declines compared to the same month last year, when the Presidential election was held.

The ratings for November 2013 (Nielsen Live + Same Day data):

  • Primetime (Mon-Sun): 2,011,000 total viewers / 348,000 A25-54
  • Total Day Mon-Sun): 1,201,000 total viewers / 248,000 A25-54

In primetime, Fox News was down -21% in total viewers and -41% in the A25-54 demographic compared to November 2012. In total day, FNC is down -18% and -30%, respectively.

November was the first full month for Fox News’ revamped primetime lineup. “The O’Reilly Factor” was down -17% in total viewers and -31% in the demo compared to the same month last year. The 9pmET hour of “The Kelly File” was down -10% in total viewers and -27% in the demo compared to November 2012, when Sean Hannity held the timeslot, and “Hannity” was down -21% and 31%, respectively, compared to the 10pmET hour of “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” last year.

Since the debut of the new primetime lineup, “The Kelly File” is up +41% in total viewers and +29% in the demo and “Hannity” is up +21% and +26%, respectively. Read more
