The former Sports Illustrated assistant managing editor joined Men’s Fitness as a consultant to CEO David Pecker before he was hired as editor-in-chief in May 2007.

Johnson tweeted out the following message on Monday afternoon:

Tweets: I just wanted you all to know that I am no longer the Editor-in-Chief of Men’s Fitness.

For the second time in my career, the harsh realities of our challenging economy have touched me, and my family – as they have so many others in our industry.

I’m extremely grateful to American Media CEO David Pecker for offering me the opportunity to oversee Men’s Fitness for almost four years. I’m proud of the brand and, in particular, our staff, which produced great fitness and nutrition content every issue and every day on mensfitness.com. continued…

Paul the Octopus Was a PR Stunt

Is nothing sacred?

Paul, the psychic Octopus who correctly picked the outcome of eight World Cup games, died yesterday. But the story doesn’t end there.

According to the Independent the entire thing was an elaborate hoax created by Merlin Entertainments Group.

Paul the Octopus, who provided colorful if inane fodder for umpteen news and broadcast organizations during the World Cup, especially those with no rights to any live action in South Africa, was also credited with predicting correct match results for Euro 2008 games. It should be stressed that, contrary to some reports, that was actually a different octopus, and that the different octopus got other results wrong, but such facts shouldn’t get in the way of a good story.

Next you’ll tell us Santa Claus doesn’t exist.
