Tiki Barber Speaks Out: ‘Marriages Dissolve. It Happens.’

Tiki Barber.jpgIn an interview with Entertainment Tonight, former Today correspondent Tiki Barber and girlfriend Traci Lynn Johnson, a former NBC intern, speak out about their relationship.

The two — who now live together — have been the subjects of media interest for months. Barber is not yet divorced from estranged wife Ginny, who was eight months pregnant with twins when news broke of the relationship with Johnson.

Barber and Johnson “were friends when I was still married [sic],” says Barber. “I was separated, out of my house, and that’s when we kind of went to a different level.”

“Tiki and I became romantically involved when he was separated,” Johnson added, “and plenty of people who are separated have girlfriends and boyfriends.”

“Marriages dissolve,” Barber continued. “It happens. It’s unfortunate, but it happens.”

Tiki Gone from NBC?

tiki_nbc_6-23.jpgBuried in a Page Six item today, which chronicles the latest mudslinging between Tiki Barber and his soon-to-be-ex-wife, is word that NBC has ended its relationship with the former-NFL player. Page Six writes, quoting a source from the Barber camp:

The buddy confirmed that Tiki, who had been working as a NBC’s “Today Show” correspondent, has “parted ways with NBC” on the heels of the scandal. That job paid him an estimated $300,000 annually.

NBC would not comment on the accuracy of the report, nor would the network confirm if Barber is still employed by NBC News. A spokesperson merely told us, “We are not commenting.”

Barber was still a contributor to the “Today” show as of late April.

Tiki Barber a Father to Twins

Tiki_5.30.jpgNBC News “Today” show contributor Tiki Barber is a father again, to twins born to his estranged wife, Ginny, on Monday.

Barber made news last month when it was revealed he’d left his pregnant wife for a former NBC intern.

If you believe the New York Post, Barber was “banned” from the delivery room. If you believe the NY Daily News, Barber “was with his estranged wife.”

Of course, both could be true: that Barber was not there when the twins were born, but saw the newborns shortly after.

Either way, it took several days for the news to break — a lifetime in the New York gossip world. Ginny Barber‘s spokesperson Jesse Derris told the Daily News late yesterday, “For privacy reasons, we decided to not make the announcement until now.”

Tiki Still Has ‘Today’ Gig

Tiki Barber still has his job as a “Today” correspondent despite the recent scandalous news that he was leaving his wife for a 23-year-old former NBC intern, according to a report in the New York Daily News:

“Tiki is a contributor to the ‘Today’ show,” an NBC News spokeswoman told The Daily News on Tuesday, refuting reports that Barber has been sacked by 30 Rock.

Earlier this week, the NY Post reported that Barber was “benched” by NBC execs after the news first broke. And Post writers heard from a source that the “Today” show had actually “booted Tiki as a high-priced correspondent.” That appears not to be the case for the moment, though it seems he hasn’t been on air for the program since January.

Hoda and Kathie Lee Talk Tiki

Hoda and Kathie Lee.jpgDuring the 10am hour of Today, co-hosts Koda Hotb and Kathie Lee Gifford addressed embarrassing news about a colleague.

“We have an issue today we have to talk about, and we do not want to because you never want these things to happen in our own family,” Kotb said on-air.

Today correspondent and former NY Giant Tiki Barber made headlines yesterday after the New York Post reported that Barber has left his wife for a 23-year-old former NBC intern.

Gifford — whose own husband, Frank Gifford, was involved in a scandalous extra-marital affair — then admonished cheating men. “I just wish you guys would start thinking about what you’re doing before you do it for once.”

Also today, the New York Post reports that Barber, a former Fox & Friends contributor, wanted to return to FNC last year, feeling underutilized at NBC.

“Tiki was unhappy that ‘Today’ wasn’t using him as much as he thought they would,” a source tells the paper.

Tiki Barber Leaves Pregnant Wife for Former NBC Intern?

tiki_3-7.jpgNew gossip this morning about NBC “Today” show correspondent and former NY Giant Tiki Barber.

The NYPost reported yesterday that Barber was splitting with his pregnant wife after 11 years. Now, Page Six reports that Barber has been running around with a former NBC intern:

Ex-Giants superstar Tiki Barber has dumped his 8-months-pregnant wife, Ginny, for sexy former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, sources told The Post last night. The football star-turned-”Today” show-correspondent left his wife of 11 years, Ginny, for the 23-year-old blonde, who also worked at 30 Rock, the sources said.

HuffPost hears from a source that Barber brought Johnson with him to the Vancouver Olympics introducing her as his assistant and that she was “very quiet, very meek, and walked around with a backpack that made her look like she was 17!”

In a statement yesterday, Barber said of the decision to end his marriage, “This decision was a painful one, but we are moving forward amicably and will continue to work together to raise our children with the love and dedication they have always known.”

Morales, Barber to Host Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular

Morales_6.24.jpgThe Today show’s Natalie Morales and Tiki Barber host this year’s “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular.”

In addition to the fireworks, there will be performances by Rob Thomas, Jewel and the cast of the revival of “West Side Story.”

The “Spectacular” airs live on NBC July 4 at 9pmET.

Roker Reports For MSNBC’s “Promise”

msnbc_2-7.jpgAl Roker reports for “A Father’s Promise,” an MSNBC documentary premiering Sunday at 8pmET.

The special, which coincides with Black History Month, looks at why so many fathers fall out of their children’s lives, especially in the inner city.

Within the documentary, NBC News catches up with a story originally reported 12 years ago, in which the network profiled several babies born in Newark, New Jersey. Also featured will be a round-table discussion of the situations and issues presented in the documentary from a cross-section of African Americans. Those include Roker, Tiki Barber and Newark Mayor Cory Booker (pictured).

> Update: The New York Times’ reviews the documentary.

MTP Makes Way For Super-Sized Sunday “Today”

The Today show is super-sizing this Super Bowl Sunday and will air from 9-11amET/8-10amCT. Meet the Press with David Gregory will air live following “Today” at 11amET/10amCT.

Sunday’s “Today” show will feature weekday anchors Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, while Matt Lauer will broadcast live from the White House lawn. Later Sunday, Lauer interviews President Barack Obama live during NBC’s Super Bowl Pre-Game.

Roker gets to Florida first, with Thursday’s reports originating from Tampa’s historic Ybor City. Vieira arrives for Friday’s show; NBC’s Tiki Barber gets a VIP tour of the stadium from his twin brother, Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ronde Barber and for some apparent reason Weekend Today co-anchor Jenna Wolfe will be live for Saturday’s Today show from Universal Studios Orlando.

The End of an Update

update_8-22.JPGDid you see that?

Today marks the final airing of MSNBC’s Olympic Update, which aired for two weeks from 5-7pmET. While enjoying strong ratings from an Olympic coverage lead-in, it amassed largely negative press. Terms like “Amateur Hour,” and “Mean-Girl insults,” were used, as were statements like, “The two seem to have worse chemistry than Barber and Eli Manning.” MSNBC message boards were full of negative reviews as well.

The “Barber” refers to Tiki Barber, who co-hosts with Jenna Wolfe in Beijing and Tamron Hall in New York.

As an example of the uncomfortable chemistry, here’s a bit from yesterday’s show:

Wolfe: What do you tell people that your nickname is?
Hall: My nickname is T-nice because all the crew members say I’m so nice.
Wolfe: No, no, no. Let me explain what your nickname is. TP, my friend. Tight Pants Tamron. TP-Tamron.
Hall: Tight pants. I’m going to kill you. Tight Pants Tamron. Well, let me tell you, today I lived up to my name. You have no idea, thank you very much.
Wolfe: Oh, we have some idea.
Hall: Yeah. Well, I — you know, I’m not going to comment because it’ll be on a blog and we’ll have to deal with it later.

Indeed. Also, apparently Wolfe is known as J-Date and Barber is Tik-ster.

But the most talked about moment of the last two weeks relates to a segment featuring Brian Williams and a discussion about “total medal count.” Newsday and the New York Daily News have stories today about the YouTube hit.

“Tiki and Jenna were discussing total medal count versus gold medal counts and Tiki’s words were unclear,” said an MSNBC statement about the matter.

Keep that in mind, while clicking continued to see the Barber clip…
