‘Good Morning America’ Expanding to the Afternoon

ABC’s “The Revolution” is being canceled and replaced by an extra hour of “Good Morning America,” in the afternoon. The hour will broadcast live at 2pmET/1pmCT and will be hosted by members of the GMA team. TVNewser hears Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer will likely be the lead hosts along with Sam Champion and other GMA anchors and contributors. The existing GMA staff will produce the third, afternoon hour.

The show will run for at least 9 weeks this summer beginning in mid-June, ending its run around the time Kate Couric‘s syndicated show hits the airwaves on many ABC stations. Couric is not part of the expanded “GMA,” but insiders say don’t be surprised if she turns up from time to time.

Deadline, which first reported the story, also reports ABC’s lone daytime drama “General Hospital” is also being renewed.

“The Revolution,” which launched in January, is a lifestyle, encouragement and support show hosted by design expert Ty Pennington, style guru Tim Gunn, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, OB-GYN Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry.

Morning Shows invade U.K. for Royal Wedding Week

The American morning shows have invaded Great Britain. Coverage of Friday’s royal wedding, which really began over the weekend, kicked in to high gear today. The “Today” show’s Meredith Vieira was outside Buckingham Palace this morning while Natalie Morales reported live from the village of Buckleberry, Kate Middleton‘s hometown. Matt Lauer and Ann Curry were in New York, and Al Roker was on the road in Washington, DC for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

ABC’s Robin Roberts was live in Jubilee Gardens across from Big Ben along with GMA Weekend co-anchor Bianna Golodryga, ABC’s UK reporter Nick Watt and future ABC daytime host Tim Gunn.

“The Early Show” co-anchor Erica Hill was live outside the Tower of London while “American Morning” anchor Kiran Chetry was at CNN’s perch across from Buckingham Palace along with CNN’s analysts, “So You Think You Can Dance” host Cat Deely and British record producer Mark Saunders.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, an Anglophile via his obsession with the Beatles and The Who, along with Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist have also begun a week of shows in London.

Who Tops Tim Gunn’s Most Stylish Newser List?

FishbowlDC’s Matt Dornic caught up with “Project Runway”‘s Tim Gunn over the weekend. Matt asked him who’s the most stylish person in news media:

Gunn: I’ll go with Diane Sawyer. She understands what she looks good in. She’s fashionable. Her clothes don’t speak before she does. She understands the power of her voice [I mean that literally and metaphorically] and there is a subtlety to the way she presents herself — both hair and makeup. I take her seriously and I find her captivating. I’m a big fan.

What Recession? Anderson Cooper Nearly Doubles in Price

Last night in Times Square, Bailey House had its annual auction which featured several tvnewsers as items up for bid, including Meet & Greets and studio tours with Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, and Rachel Maddow as well as VIP tickets for the Today show and GMA Summer concert series. The last we looked they were each in the $700-$800 range. In the not-so-silent Auction portion, a dinner with CNN’s Anderson Cooper went for $7,500 up from $4,500 last year.

But the highlight for us may have been talking with Jane Pauley who says she’s got some exciting things lined up in 2009. But she also revealed that when she goes back to 30 Rock these days, she has to stop first at the visitor’s desk.

ABC’s Jeffrey Schneider was once again co-chair along with Jeffery Povero. In all, Bailey House raised more than $700,000 to help homeless people living with AIDS.
