Matt Lauer Challenges Maureen Orth Over Tom Cruise ‘Vanity Fair’ Story

Maureen Orth, aka Luke Russert‘s mom, has written another juicy page-turner for “Vanity Fair” involving Tom Cruise, dating auditions and Scientology. On “Today” this morning Matt Lauer challenged Orth over some of the sourcing in the piece, including the story of one woman, actress Nazanin Boniadi, who dated Cruise for a few months in 2004 when she was still a member of the Church.

Lauer asked Orth if Boniadi was one of her sources. “If she is part of the article wouldn’t we want to know?” asked Lauer. “You might want to know but I’m not going to tell you my sources,” said Orth. The Church of Scientology has called the story “hogwash.”

And finally the interview at 7:39. Cruise said he came off as “arrogant” during his last appearance 3 1/2 years ago. He called Lauer “glib” during an intense discussion about psychiatry and antidepressants.

“I’m here to entertain people,” Cruise said today. “That’s who I am and what I want to do.”

In the live interview scheduled for Monday, the two will discuss Cruise’s, “distinguished career, his family, including wife Katie Holmes, and children Connor, Isabella and Suri and their life at home,” as well as Cruise’s upcoming new film, “Valkyrie,” according to the press release.

Bygones appear to be bygones — at the roast of Lauer in October, Cruise showed up and joked about the interview.
