DeMar DeRozan Won't Be Jumping Over A Car Anytime Soon

While the NBA Slam Dunk Contest was a hit with the ratings, the black cloud lingering over the event were the number of dunks involving props.

Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan is fed up with the props and says he’s done with the dunk contest unless the NBA addressees the situation.

“I’m a dunker. Dunk contests, you go out there and dunk. I’m not into all the props and everything,” DeRozan said on Tuesday. “I try to come out with a creative dunk and do it and go from there. My fans liked it and you can see the reaction from a lot of people afterward. “If there’s a dunk contest next year I’ll do it. But not no prop dunk contest.” Read more

Versus Adding 13 NHL Games This Season

Versus, which has been the national home of NHL games since 2005, plans to add more games to its lineup this season. According to Tripp Mickle in today’s Sports Business Daily, Versus will televise an additional 13 NHL games this season, bringing the total to 78.

The Comcast-owned network plans to complement its hockey game coverage by adding 30 “Hockey Central” pregame shows before the NHL telecasts.

When it acquired the rights to NHL games, Versus was betting that it would be proving its worth as a viable competitor to ESPN and Turner Sports once Major League Baseball and National Basketball Association rights came up. Of course, the deep pockets and even deeper relationships between Turner, ESPN and the leagues nipped that fear in the bud.
