NFL Owners Won't Be in the Poorhouse Anytime Soon

Forbes.com’s Maury Brown examines the claim of the NFL league office that it’s hard out there for an owner. His findings? Not really true.

Brown quotes colleague Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes SportsMoney, who writes, “The NFL has never been more profitable by our count with the average team earning $33 million in 2009 in operating profit (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) thanks to huge incomes for teams like the Cowboys, Patriots and Redskins.”

The rest of the facts don’t support the owners claims, either. Read more

Tiger Woods Is Still Ratings Gold

Tiger Woods has had a rough 2010 both on and off the course. On Sunday, his golf season came to a fitting end when he lost a four-shot lead to Graeme McDowell and fell in the Chevron World Challenge. It completed his first winless season since like forever ago.

But! The broadcast “generated the best Sunday overnight rating in eight years and a 170-percent increase from last year’s final-day broadcast.” The third round coverage was also up huge, showing a 167 percent increase from ’09.

The best ratings for the event came in 2002, a match that featured Padraig Harrington defeating, you guessed it, Woods.

Golf’s biggest star doesn’t carry the pull he previously did, but it’s clear that he’s still a massive marketing vehicle. It should help him regain some sponsors, especially if his game continues to improve.

Mike & Mike Swing And Miss With Tiger Interview

Once the guidelines were revealed yesterday by Sports Illustrated reporter Richard Deitsch, it paved the way for the slew of softball questions that were tossed in Tiger’s direction.

Instead of listening to Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic interview Woods, check out his article in Newsweek: Read more

Fox Calls CNN “Partisan” In New Ad

Fox News is taking on CNN in another print ad today. Last night TVNewser told you about the ad taken out in the Chicago Tribune. Now HuffingtonPost has the story behind another ad which is running today in the The Washington Post, Multichannel News and The Wall Street Journal (probably got a discount on that last one.)

The ad uses last week’s Pew Research Center study about where democrat and republican viewers get their news, and it brands CNN as a “partisan” news channel.
