Bloomberg TV’s Michele Steele Joining ESPN

ESPN continues its recent trend of acquiring business-savvy reporters with its latest hire. TVNewser has learned that Bloomberg TV’s sports business reporter Michele Steele is joining the Worldwide Leader as on-air talent.

Steele is the second business network talent to depart for Bristol in recent weeks: ESPN hired Fox Business Network anchor Chris Cotter last month. The channel also recently hired a sports business reporter of its own in Kristi Dosh, who founded the Business of College Sports blog.

Bloomberg TV meanwhile has seen a small exodus of talent. In the last few weeks producer Mark Berniker left the channel while managing editor Dan Colarusso jumped to Reuters. That said, Bloomberg has also been adding staffers to its ranks, including Courtney Chapman and Wendy Brundige from ABC, Stephanie Ruhle from Deutsche Bank and Justin Dial from CNN.

Bloomberg Names ABC News Producer Courtney Chapman EP of Special Events

ABC News producer Courtney Chapman was named executive producer of special events for Bloomberg TV, the company announced today.

At ABC News, Chapman was the coordinating producer of content development for digital media, managing digital coverage of the 2010 midterm election and the royal wedding in the UK. In her new role, she will be responsible for Bloomberg TV coverage of both live and planned major events.

Andrew Morse, Bloomberg’s head of U.S. television, joined the business network from ABC News in June. Earlier this month, Morse also brought on former ABCer Wendy Brundige as the network’s West Coast bureau chief.

In a statement, Bloomberg TV said the goal of Chapman’s role is “to deliver more in-depth special reports to our viewers.” The network produced several specials this summer and has another, called “EU Breakthrough,” scheduled for 7 p.m.ET tonight.

Producers From CNN, ABC News Hired at Bloomberg

Bloomberg TV announced two new hires today: Justin Dial, who will be head of U.S. newsgathering, and Wendy Brundige, who will be West Coast bureau chief. Dial and Brundige join Bloomberg from CNN and ABC News, respectively.

Dial was senior producer for “American Morning” at CNN. He will be tasked with managing Bloomberg’s domestic newsgathering and field reporting, including coverage of the 2012 election, from the network’s global headquarters in New York City.

Brundige has been with ABC News for seven years, most recently as the Seattle bureau producer for breaking news. In her new role, she will oversee content and production from “Bloomberg West,” the 6 p.m.ET show anchored by Emily Chang and Cory Johnson from San Francisco.
