White House Miffed Over Networks Skipping Immigration Address

the_white_house_0Yesterday, insiders told TVNewser that the White House did not request time from the networks for tonight’s primetime speech on immigration. According to Hadas Gold of Politico, the White House is now annoyed that the major broadcast networks will be skipping President Barack Obama‘s plan to deal with millions of illegal immigrants.

Obama’s speech is schedule for 8 pm ET tonight and will be passed over for the Winter Finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC, a new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS and “The Biggest Loser: Glory Days” on NBC. None of the networks expressed interested in bumping a hit show for Obama’s primetime address.

Libya, Border Violence and NFL Lockout topics at Obama/Calderon Newser

After an opening statement about his meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Pres. Obama gave remarks on the situation in Libya and then took questions. CNN, Fox News and MSNBC all carried the statements and the questions which followed.

The first question went to the AP’s Ben Feller, although his was a three-parter: to Pres. Obama on Libya and the potential for an NFL lockout; and a question to Pres. Calderon on U.S.-Mexico border violence. Obama answered the football question first: “The two parties should be able to work it out without the President of the United States intervening… it turns out I’ve got a lot of other stuff to do.”
