Making the Move — Invesco

dnc_8-24.gifSometime around 3amET, the cable and broadcast networks will be making the move to Invesco Field, to set up for Sen. Barack Obama‘s acceptance speech.

The move was described to us as a “disaster,” by an insider today, but it has to be done. ABC News political director David Chalian said it will be like, “covering two different Democratic Conventions.”

invesco_8-27.jpgNBC anchor Brian Williams tells TVNewser, although it will be a, “logistical challenge,” it has been done before. “Everyone has got to remember Kennedy did it in Los Angeles,” he said. “But this will be something.”

CBS Early Show EP Zev Shalev told TVNewser this morning he’s happy with the anchor handling the duties. “We’re blessed by a guy who can talk off the cuff,” he said of Harry Smith. “He’s experienced and terrific.”

And although Shalev said it’s, “going to be a big challenge,” he said, “It’s why I like television.”

Tomorrow will have Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, 80,000 people in the crowd and staging that has been described as resembling an “ancient Greek temple” (and described to us as looking like the White House Rose Garden). Any guesses on ratings for tomorrow night?

> The first time the newly official presidential nominees are scheduled to appear in the same spot will be on September 11 in New York. Obama and McCain will take part in an evening forum commemorating the anniversary of the terrorist attacks and highlighting the importance of national service in America. The “ServiceNation” forum will feature the candidates back-to-back and will be open to coverage by all nets.

Batson Named Senior Broadcast Producer of The Early Show

Batson_8.20.jpgEarly Show EP Zev Shalev continues staffing up the CBS News morning program.

Shalev has named Anthony Batson a senior broadcast producer. Batson, an Aussie by birth, joins from CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery. He’ll oversee the show’s taped segments, as well as working with the senior editorial team on special projects.

Batson has been with CBS News since 1996 first as a producer, then senior producer and finally senior broadcast producer of 48 Hours. Before that he was with Fox and America’s Most Wanted.
