A few hours after Gen. Stanley McChrystal was relieved of his duties, The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder, who is also chief political consultant to CBS News, wrote about the day’s events in his Night Beat column, which included this:
Even more about McChrystal: now it can be told. The story about him voting for Obama is not contrived. He is a political liberal. He is a social liberal. He banned Fox News from the television sets in his headquarters. Yes, really. This puts to rest another false rumor: that McChrystal deliberately precipitated his firing because he wants to run for President.
Then yesterday, in another post, Ambinder added:
McChrystal was a hard core operator, aggressive as hell, a JSOC ninja — but he was also a social liberal who tolerated, nay, welcomed gay people into his inner circle, who disdained Fox News, and who grew increasingly frustrated with his reputation as Dick Cheney’s hired assassin.
