“The CNN Hero Awards”

“CNN will repurpose user-generated content to seed a year-end awards gala meant to honor unsung heroes throughout the world,” MediaWeek reports.

The winners of the “CNN Hero Awards” will be announced “during a special live global broadcast on CNN/U.S. and CNN International on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 9 p.m. (ET).”

Anderson Cooper and “an array of notable co-hosts to be announced later this year” will present the awards.

CNN’s platforms will feature “everyday heroes” beginning May 1. The award categories are:

— “Defending the Planet”

— “Fighting for Justice”

— “Community Crusader”

— “Medical Marvel”

— “Championing Children”

— “Young Wonder”
