Is the end near for Dan Rather at CBS?
“Rumors are starting to spread that Rather, whose contract with CBS expires in August, is not coming back to the network,” NewsBusters says. “And that it’s a mutual decision.” The site links to a Free Republic poster who asserts that Rather “has not been offered ANY type of renewal.”
A couple days ago, a tipster suggested that I “check into the fact that Dan Rather filed his last report for CBS News on May 7th,” adding: “He is out at ’60 Minutes’ and overall out at CBS.”
On Monday, I asked a spokesperson if CBS has reached a decision about his future at the network, and if he has any pieces in the works for 60 Minutes? She responded: “Dan is a correspondent for ’60 Minutes’ and is currently working on pieces that will be broadcast in the coming months.”
