MSNBC Hires ESPN Vet for Top Marketing Job

Sharon Otterman is joining MSNBC as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Otterman, who joins MSNBC from ESPN, will be responsible for overseeing the network's on- and off-air marketing and branding. At ESPN Otterman was Vice President of Customer Experience Strategy & Digital Marketing. She joined ESPN in 2003 as VP of Integrated Media & Market Planning.

NEW YORK Oct. 21, 2009 Sharon Otterman has joined MSNBC as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, it was announced today by Phil Griffin, President, MSNBC. Otterman will be responsible for overseeing the network's on- and off-air marketing and branding. She will report directly to Griffin.

"The addition of Sharon to our executive team is the final step as we continue to build our own unique brand," said Griffin. "MSNBC has had fantastic success over the past two years and this move will allow us to get to the next level by focusing on our brand development and awareness. Sharon is a proven marketer and brings a wealth of experience from one great cable brand to another. I'm thrilled to have her join MSNBC."

Otterman joins MSNBC from ESPN, where she most recently served as Vice President, Customer Experience Strategy & Digital Marketing, leading the customer acquisition, brand development and positioning efforts for all digital products and services. Otterman joined ESPN in 2003 as the Vice President, Integrated Media & Market Planning.

Previously, Otterman was the Vice President, Marketing Programs Practice at Modem Media, where she provided strategic guidance and assisted with customer acquisition for 15 Fortune 500 clients. Otterman began her career at Ogilvy & Mather as a Non-Traditional Planner.

Otterman graduated cum laude from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communication and received an Executive MBA from New York University. Otterman lives in New York City.
